The Nike+ system of sports trackers actually pre-dates Android, or at least the consumer version of the operating system. For a long time Nike withheld Nike+ apps and accessories from Android and Google Play, though they've loosened up a bit in the last few years and posted a bunch of fitness and sports support apps. The latest Nike+ app gets right to the heart of what the company is all about: selling stuff.

Okay, perhaps that's a little unfair. The new Nike+ (no extra name or differentiator) isn't only for shopping. Once the app gets your contact information, favorite sports, and shoe size, it will generate a feed full of stories that... oh, wait, the "stories" are all just entries on Nike's online shop. So yes, it's just for shopping.

But there's nothing wrong with that! If you really like Nike's products and want an app dedicated to personalized recommendations, hey, this is it. Users can customize their profile based on product lines they enjoy, call a sales agent, or book a face-to-face meeting if they're in New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago. There's also a more generalized store locator for retail partners, though it seems a little anemic - surely there's somewhere in Monterey, California that sells Nike shoes, right?

The app is free to download on Android 4.4 or higher. At the moment the only thing it's missing is a Google+/Facebook login - if you don't already have a Nike account, you'll need to create one from scratch. All the orders made from the app get free shipping, which is a nice perk.
