Sometimes Google's social team jumps the gun a little bit. Case in point, earlier today the Android Twitter account posted that Android Pay was finally available in the UK after being announced way back in March. Except, well... not quite yet. That tweet was removed and now they are saying we're "not quite there yet." We're betting that means tomorrow.

There's an update to Android Pay rolling out in the Play Store, but it's still not available to those in the UK. You can get it from APK Mirror, though. The changelog just says that it supports 40+ languages now, but it might be the update needed for UK support as well. The UK residents we've checked with haven't been able to add any cards after sideloading yet, but Google could throw the switch at any time.

Whenever support goes live, Android Pay will support banks like Lloyds Bank, HSBC, Nationwide, and Halifax. You'll still need to find retailers that have NFC terminals, which so far include the likes of Greggs, Starbucks, and Transport for London. We'll keep an eye on this and update when it's officially live.

It's official

Google has officially announced Android Pay in the UK. The app is available for download in the Play Store now. Android Pay will be expanding next to Singapore and Australia.
