Fans of Sony's Android phones have long touted the advantages of Stamina Mode, which was a bit like Doze Mode before Marshmallow was a thing. However, Google's requirement that OEMs not fiddle with Doze caused Sony to take Stamina Mode out of its Marshmallow builds. Sony promised it would come back, and now it has in the latest beta update.

The new build is based on Android 6.0.1 and is available to select users of the Xperia Z2, Z3, and Z3 Compact. Stamina Mode is available in the battery menu, but users are reporting it lacks many of the customization options the old version had. When Stamina Mode is active, features like GPS, background data, and rendering performance are limited. Ultra Stamina Mode basically disables everything except for a handful of apps and features.

Doze Mode will still be operating when Sony's battery saving features are enabled. Thus, Stamina Mode won't be interfering with background processes itself. You can choose at what battery level Stamina Mode flips on, but that's about it.
