Whether you bought a Gear VR headset when it launched, got a free one with your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, or don't have any Gear VR, you probably know about all of that sweet virtual reality content that Samsung is releasing on Milk VR and wishing you could experience it anywhere, regardless of whether you have a headset nearby.
That's what Samsung's latest app on the Play Store aims to do. Milk VR wants to bring virtual reality videos and experiences to your phone, headset optional. Of course the experience is going to be different: holding your phone in front of you and spinning it around in 360 degrees isn't as immersive or as "real" as strapping a headset to your face and jumping head first into other environments where you can intuitively control everything by moving around. But it's a start.
The Milk VR app lets you browse and search all of Samsung's 360 video content, play videos directly on the phone with or without a Gear VR, and download videos for later viewing if your headset isn't with you right now. However, it doesn't seem to be compatible with interactive videos that require the Gear VR's touchpad, and you're still bound by Samsung hardware as the app is only available on the Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Note 5, S6, S6 edge, and S6 edge+. If you have a compatible device, the free download is waiting for you below.
