Verizon's Droid phones have traditionally been slow on updates, which isn't surprising for Verizon. Still, you have to wonder what's up when the hardware is sometimes very similar to the current gen Moto X. At any rate, Verizon has finally started rolling out Marshmallow to the Droid Turbo 2 (a few months after the Moto X Pure). That means lots of new features to play with.

You probably have a good grasp of what comes with Android 6.0 by now, but Verizon has a pretty detailed rundown on its update page. Here's the gist.

  • Now on Tap
  • App Standby
  • Doze mode
  • App permissions
  • Expandable storage (adoptable)
  • Do not disturb mode
  • Expanded volume controls
  • Direct Share
  • Do not disturb integrated with Assist
  • Attentive Display now part of Moto Actions

The update will be delivered to devices on a WiFi network only because of the size. Make sure your battery is charged and start mashing the update button. Verizon will probably be rolling it out in waves, so don't be surprised if it's not available right away.

Okay, now the update is ready

Okay, so Motorola and Verizon backed off on the rollout of Marshmallow early this month, and actually sent out a new soak test a few days ago. Now, Verizon's update tracking page lists the Turbo 2's latest update as March 1st. That's tomorrow. The build number is different, so this is probably it.

New soak

This update sure has been elusive. Motorola's Dave Schuster says that a new soak test is rolling out. It'll be out when it's out, I guess. You can probably blame Verizon for this.
