Browsing the Internet on a public Wi-Fi connection comes with its share of risks. With the latest update, Opera Max will better protect users who go online on an unprotected network.

Opera Max will do this by switching all of its VPN data connections to SPDY with SSL tunnel instead of HTTP 1.1. This way your Internet traffic should not only consume less data, it will be encrypted as well. Opera says this will also speed up the experience on crowded networks.

You can try it out by downloading the Android app below and heading over to the nearest coffee shop. Don't drink coffee? Yeah, me neither.
