Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Android Police coverage: [Update: Game Is Live] NVIDIA'S SHIELD Android TV Will (Finally!) Get Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance On January 7th, Marshmallow Update Sometime Later

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was one of the showcase games ported from the PS3 which NVIDIA showed off on the SHIELD TV almost a year ago. The developers took their sweet time (probably busy making pachinko machines), but the final version is incredibly impressive considering it's running on mobile hardware. Revengeance is a cyberpunk hack-and-slash action game with fast fights and insane bosses, set in and based on the universe of the Metal Gear Solid series. It's only available for the SHIELD TV.

METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE for NVIDIA SHIELD brings the exciting action experience from PC and console to Android, leveraging the performance and capabilities of the Tegra X1 processor in SHIELD Android TV. The game seamlessly melds pure action and epic story-telling that surrounds Raiden – a child soldier transformed into a half-human, half-cyborg ninja who uses his High Frequency katana blade to cut through any thing that stands in his vengeful path.

I Have No Mouth

Android Police coverage: DotEmu Releases Classic Adventure Game 'I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream' On Android

DotEmu has built a reputation on taking classic games and making brilliant and faithful mobile ports. Their latest project is I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, a point-and-click horror game from more than twenty years ago. The Android version follows the multiple plot lines of the original and includes the standard inventory puzzles, plus several options for graphics, sound, and input. It's reasonable at $4 with no ads or in-app purchases.

I Have no Mouth, And I Must Scream is a classic point-and-click adventure game originally released in 1995 on PC. Based on a short story of the same title by Harlan Ellison, one of the most-acclaimed American science-fiction writers, I Have no Mouth, And I Must Scream immerses the player in a frightening post-apocalyptic atmosphere 109 years after a supercomputer named AM has wiped out humanity. Created during the War, AM hates all humans and has decided to make the last five survivors pay for what they’ve done.

This is a port of the Nintendo DS/PlayStation Portable version, and if you've played one of these LEGO games before, you won't find any surprises here. Worms 4

Android Police coverage: Team 17 Gives Its Core Franchise A Mobile Makeover With Worms 4, Now In The Play Store

The history of the 2D ballistic battle series Worms is long and storied, but the entries on Android have been a bit up and down. Original developer Team 17 is taking a new approach with the fourth version, restructuring the game to make more sense on mobile. Single-player stages now follow the familiar three-star format, and multiplayer battles are limited to two fighters at a time. There are a few in-app purchases, but they're surprisingly reasonable.

When the guys and girls at Team 17 jump around and squeal with excitement, you know you are on to a winner. You see, the team who designed Worms 4 had you and your favorite device in mind when they created;

• Synchronous Multiplayer Matches: Battle against opponents from around the world with real time one on one online multiplayer matches.

• Shorter, more explosive matches to provide compelling bite sized gameplay.

• Streamlined menu systems to get you into game with a minimum of fuss.

• Add enriched cartoon visuals which look great even on the smaller screens.

Star Trek Timelines

Android Police coverage: [Engage] Star Trek Timelines Drops Out Of Warp In The Play Store

Pour out a glass of Romulan ale for Star Trek, a once noble sci-fi franchise now reduced to mindless summer action movies and free-to-play mobile games. Star Trek Timelines shows real heart and dedication to the older television series, with reality-warping missions that force you to think, but it can't escape the money-sucking structure of the free-to-play setup. (Gene Roddenberry would turn in his grave to see a Star Trek game driven by fake currency that needs to be topped up with real money.) It's also a shame that the impressive Unity graphics are paired to a buggy and unfinished final product.

Ready your crew to explore the final frontier in the ultimate sci-fi strategy RPG: Star Trek Timelines. Join Starfleet in a truly immersive mobile experience as you boldly go where no game has gone before – across the entire history of Star Trek.

● Assemble your crew from hundreds of favorite Star Trek characters from The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise, each with unique skills and abilities

Ancestor

Ancestor is a drop-dead gorgeous platformer that mixes combat and puzzle elements with style. The levels and character animations look amazing, even in the "retro" pixelated format, giving each procedurally-generated world more atmosphere than most entire games. In-game currency buys power-ups for weapons and armor. IAP is included, but most equipment is unlocked with single $1 purchases.

SUPERMEGAQUEST presents ANCESTOR. A super fun puzzle action runner that will challenge your brain and dazzle your eyes. Venture across a dangerous landscape riddled with traps and enemies. Defenders 2

Defenders, a fantasy-themed tower defense game with impressive graphics, won more than a few fans when it was originally released on the Play Store. The sequel brings more varied levels with both day/night and weather systems, intense online multiplayer, and a smorgasbord of tower types, enemy units, spells, and runes. It's just a shame that the multiplayer game will be so slanted with those currency and upgrade in-app purchases.

Meet the latest game in the legendary Prime Word: Defenders series, a unique combination of the Tower Defense and Collectible Card Game genres with more than 5 million players around the globe. The Pit

Ketchapp's games are becoming a little more elaborate (and not a minute too soon). While The Pit still relies on super-basic runner elements, its isometric viewpoint and colorful world are worth a little attention. The hold-and-release function to jump is interesting, too. Progression through the twitchy world is motivated by unlocking new minimalist character skins. Ads can be banished for a dollar.

Run, jump, and slide your way through The Pit. Watch out for deadly traps as you race against the most dangerous terrain. Choose to play as multiple characters by collecting coins to unlock new ones. Compete with your friends for the highest score. How far can you go?

  • Unlock cool new Characters
  • Fast action One Touch Gameplay
  • Challenge your Friends for the High Score
  • Extremely Fun & Addicting.

Galactic Nemesis

Galactic Nemesis revels in its old-school mechanics and graphics, and it doesn't care who knows it. It's a modern take on Space Invaders with classic sensibilities, and on top of the nostalgic visuals and sound, it offers 10 different ships with a variety of upgradeable weapons, 48 stages, and 50 achievements to motivate you if global defense isn't enough.

Aliens are invading the galaxies and you're the only hope. Battle waves of alien races and defeat mega bosses with your powerful galactic ship. Each world offers a new set of challenges, and new species of fire shooting aliens. Upgrade your ship to help your conquer the challenges. Compete in almost 50 stages, then attempt each world's endurance mode to see if you have what it takes to save each galaxy.

Rocket Ski Racing

I'd be willing to bet that someone on the development team of Rocket Ski Racing is a big Wile E. Coyote fan. This minimalistic racing game is simple, goofy, and fun, but what it does best is nail a feeling of speed, something that's easy to get wrong. A multiplayer mode would be ideal, but alas, it's limited to online leaderboards. I'll forgive that, since the game is free with no in-app purchases.

Rocket Ski Racing is a high speed, high score racer. Boosts your way through 24 races. Watch out for blocks of ice and the edge of the track or you'll explode into a scattered pile of parts. There are two game modes, Gate Chase and Race. In Gate Chase you must go through gates to get points, the only thing is the gates aren't static like normal skiing, they're racing around the track.

TMNT Portal Power

Nickelodeon is back with another TMNT game, and this time it has the dignity to be an actual brawler. The Turtles fight off ninjas, mutants, robots, and other cartoon baddies using tap-and-swipe controls that work well with touchscreens. Special super attacks can use all four brothers at once, and the game includes voice actors from the popular kid show. It's pricey at $5, and though it has IAP, they're all permanent costume unlocks.

Help the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles travel through portals and fight evil in this action-packed street fighting game. Play as all four Ninja Turtles at once as you punch, kick, power-up and portal your way through outrageous dimensions to stop Shredder and the Kraang from unleashing another diabolical plot.

Wild Kratts Baby Buddies

Baby animals found in the wild should be left alone. But we'll allow the Kratt brothers, of PBS's well-received animated nature show, a little artistic license. This activity center-style app isn't going to hold adults' attention for long, but kids will love the reactions from savannah critters and basic puzzles presented by the show's cast. This kids game is reasonable at $2 with no in-app purchases.

The Wild Kratts need your help taking care of baby animals in the African Savannah. Take care of a baby elephant, cheetah, crocodile, zebra and aardvark. Join Martin, Chris, and the Wild Kratts team on an African Savannah creature sitting adventure. These baby animals need a lot of attention and care, and with the Wild Kratts Baby Buddies app, you are in charge of feeding, washing, protecting and playing with each one.

Loot & Legends

Loot & Legends is a dungeon-crawling RPG that's made to look like a tabletop roleplaying game... which is odd, since the original RPG video games were almost entirely based on Dungeons & Dragons-style tabletop games. Its tongue-in-cheeck humor pokes fun at the insular and not overly serious culture around RPG gamers. All of the standards are included, Tolkien-style enemies, cards and turn-based combat, and they're unfortunately augmented with some pricey IAP.

An epic tale of Adventure, Glory and Pizza. Take a trip to a time when battles were set atop tables and magic was limited only by your imagination. Collect powerful cards to crush your competition in an immersive cardboard universe. Forged from the award-winning PC game Card Hunter and designed with Richard Garfield, creator of Magic: The Gathering, Loot & Legends takes you on a hilarious journey filled with pop culture, sibling rivalry, and pizza delivery romance.

Premium RPG Asdivine Menace

Kemco is back with another anime-style RPG. I honestly can't tell them apart at this point, but since this company is the only one making actually new JRPG-type games (ahem, Square-Enix) and charging a decent price, I'm loathe to put them down. Asdivine Menace includes some impressive 2D art, turn-based battles, and it's just recently been translated into English. A free version, without some extra goodies from the get-go, is also available.

Purchase the Premium Edition of Asdivine Menace and receive 1500 AMP as a bonus. Travel the galaxy to bring the truth full circle in this latest chapter in the highly acclaimed "Asdivine-series" from KEMCO. A century after the events of Asdivine Dios peace has finally settled in. That is, until a visitor from another world suddenly shows up proclaiming the entire universe is about to be destroyed.

ULTRAFLOW 2

In Ultraflow you're tasked with flinging a super-simplified disc around various stages and obstacles in air hockey fashion, hitting the goal by bouncing around the environment like a caffeinated toddler. The mechanics are kind of like those trick miniature golf holes, except you're given limited amounts of banking shots for each stage. A single in-app purchase doubles the already generous 180 stages to a whopping 360.

ULTRAFLOW 2 is an arcade puzzle game which combines the gameplay of air hockey and mini-golf, in a chill and minimalist experience. No score, no timer, the only challenge is your dexterity. Just fling the ball to the goal. This is the official sequel of ULTRAFLOW. Based on same puzzle and arcade principles with a dose of fresh new features, ULTRAFLOW 2 is all about agility, dexterity and fun.

PipSpin

PipSpin is a game that's designed to look as if it's being played on a Pip-Boy, the fictional smartphone-cuff-thing from the popular Fallout game series. It's an interesting bit of meta-media: a game designed to resemble fake games based on real games, which are actually real games that are self-contained in a larger real game. Anyway, it's a simple twitch title wherein you spin a stick to avoid incoming obstacles on multiple tracks and from multiple directions. The $1 upgrade allows you to choose a color for the LED-style graphics.

PipSpin is an arcade action puzzler that will put your brain, reflexes, and thumbs to the test. The controls and rules are simple...tap left or right to maneuver your line to avoid oncoming obstacles. The challenge is anything but simple... hone your brain power and thumb skills to maneuver your line through 10 levels of fast paced, choreographed, puzzle action. Can you beat all 10 levels?

Countdown - The Official App

Countdown is a sort of British version of Jeopardy, except its brainy contestants rely on vocabulary and math skills rather than trivia. The Boggle-style word games and math problems are now available in mobile flavor, including a two-player mode that uses the same device. At the moment it seems to be in a limited geographic release, perhaps only in the UK.

It’s time to go up against TV’s most iconic clock. You may feel that you are good at crosswords and Sudoku, but the official Countdown App of Channel 4’s hit TV show is set to provide the ultimate mental challenge. Compete in all three Countdown disciplines: the letters round, the numbers round and the famous Countdown Conundrum. Will you be able to generate a nine letter word and achieve the numbers round target before the clock runs down? Finally, with fingers on the buzzer you will need to hold your nerve and find the Conundrum word before your opponent.

BattleHand

Battlehand looks like a modern collector card game from the screenshots, but the mechanics actually share more in common with old-school party-based RPGs. Collect heroes, level them up, and use elemental spells and attacks to gain an advantage against enemies and monsters. The cartoony style of the 3D graphics is appealing, but the $100 IAP is not.

Join the battle. Recruit your team of heroes, lead powerful attacks, and defeat the evil minions of Queen Amethyst in this addictive and free to play 3D action RPG. The dreaded Queen has awoken and with her, the foul creatures that lie beneath the peaceful land of FellCrest. But all is not lost. The forgotten heroes of this land who had long ago put up their swords and bows are back and ready to fight in pursuit of honor and justice.

Tap My Katamari - Clicker

The cult classic Katamari Damacy has come to Android... but probably not in the way fans wanted. Instead of a simple 3D game about rolling stuff up, we get a "clicker" game, in which tapping the screen faster results in a bigger rolled-up ball. There are a few extras thrown in just to keep things interesting, but aside from the charming art style, the core of the original game is not present. At the moment it isn't available in the US.

Experience a new way to play Katamari. Tap My Katamari is a spin-off clicker game in the strange and quirky universe of sticky balls, tiny green royalty, and cowbears. You are the Prince, tasked by The King of All Cosmos to restore the universe and its stars by tapping. To do so, you've been given the Katamari, a magical ball that makes everything it touches stick to it. Grow your Katamari into a star and restore the universe.

MMA Federation

Mixed martial arts is a hot ticket right now, so of course there's a new mobile game that takes advantage of it. Oddly, this game features turn-based battles - you'd think that MMA fans would be all about real-time combat. The graphics are cartoony in the style of Team Fortress 2, but between the odd setup, the online multiplayer focus, and massive in-app purchases, I'm inclined to pass on MMA Federation.

Compete in epic MMA Fights. Join genuine MMA Teams and Train with world famous Fighters and Coaches. Choose from Tristar, American Top Team, Elite MMA, SBG and many more. It’s your chance to become the ultimate MMA Champion. MMA FEDERATION is a Fighting Game that throws you into an authentic world of Mixed Martial Arts. Discover turn-based gameplay that’s easy to learn, difficult to master and brutally addictive.

Age of Wushu Dynasty

Age of Wushu Dynasty is a mobilized version of a free-to-play PC MMORPG. It takes place in a fantasized version of Chinese mythology, with a battle system that focuses on intense melee combat over more staid interpretations in other RPGs. Fans of cheesy kung fu movies will feel right at home with the setting, and it looks like combat is a little more dynamic than most top-down RPGs. IAPs are present in spades, but you should be able to avoid them if you stay out of the PVP mode.

Discover the ancient mysticism and thrilling action of traditional martial arts with Age of Wushu Dynasty. The follow-up to PC MMO sensation Age of Wushu, Age of Wushu Dynasty allows players to enter the cut-throat martial arts world of Jianghu and become a true Kungfu master for mobile. Master the arts and unleash your inner fighter in the next hit mobile MMO action role playing adventure.

The Incorruptibles

This stylish real-time strategy game features an interesting touch interface that tries to overcome some of the more vexing limitations of the genre on touchscreens. It's a standard fantasy setting and "hero" super-units play a big part in the game, but unfortunately it's limited to single-player at the moment. It also has regrettable $100 in-app purchases, but getting through the grind might be possible without spending too much.

The Incorruptibles is a REAL-TIME STRATEGY game that combines intense combat with a deep, robust crafting system that unlocks powerful heroes. Battle the evil Corrupted, take back the realm & expand your own thriving kingdom. Developed by BonusXP & many of the creative minds behind the immensely popular AGE OF EMPIRES franchise, The Incorruptibles has been built to provide a unique hero based, real-time strategy experience unlike that of any other mobile game.

BLEACH Brave Souls

Bleach is a popular action anime, ostensibly about grim reapers taking the souls of humans to the afterlife, but really about dudes shouting at each other and swinging giant swords. This mobile game takes the characters and story into a stylish hack-and-slash fighter, and while the graphics are a bit simple, the fighting takes place in full 3D. Unfortunately it's saddled with some quite expensive in-app purchases.

3D graphics and simple controls make for free-flowing and fast-paced hack-and-slash action. Unleash each Bleach character's unique special moves to carve your way to victory. Special moves are fully voiced by the original Japanese anime voice actors. Combine your favorite characters into teams of three. You can even make combinations of characters you would never see in the original story. The possibilities are almost limitless.
