On a new Android device (or an old one), opening up the Play Store is the quickest way to get your hands on a digital book. Thing is, that's only the case if you live in a supported country. Today Play Books are making their way to nine countries throughout the Middle East.

The nine names we've seen added to the relevant support page are:

  • Bahrain
  • Egypt
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Oman
  • Qatar
  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates

Rita, located in our Lebanon bureau, has noticed plenty of Arabic content alongside English and international works. The ability to upload ePubs and PDFs has popped up as well, along with some awkward translations. According to Rita, "Top Free Books" was roughly mis-translated to "Top Books The Free" (where The Free is a family name, like The Kennedys).

The Play Books app recently gained a night light feature that tints the screen red at night, making evening reading easier on the eyes. Be sure to give that a try as you're filling your virtual library with tomes you can fit in your pocket.
