The Vimeo app is one of those famously bad apps that actually make a mediocre mobile website look good by comparison. After years of being behind the curve, Vimeo is finally stepping up its app game with a v2.0 update. There's a lot of good stuff here, but you'll have to wait a bit for all the pieces to be in place.

If you've ever used the Vimeo app (and I feel bad for you if so), this will be a completely different experience. See below for some old screens. Here's the changelog.

We built a brand-new and fully marshmallow-compatible Vimeo app, especially for you! It's better in all these ways:
  • Super fresh design: it’s easier to use, and extra easy on the eyes.
  • A hot new player: stream videos in glorious ad-free HD.
  • A+ uploading: upload your videos, set your privacy, and manage settings.
  • More to love: browse human-curated categories like Animation, Documentary, Travel, etc. to discover amazing new videos.
S’mores on the way in 2016!
Love,
Vimeo

The new version is native and has some material elements. It no longer sticks out like a sore thumb on Android. Yay. Browsing, the player, and suggestions are all better in this version.

There's a spot of lag here and there, but this is basically a completely new app. There are still some kinks to work out, and casting isn't supported yet. We asked Vimeo about that and were told casting should be added in Q1 2016. Better than nothing.
