Part of the appeal of smartwatches is using them in place of a dedicated activity tracker. Pebble watches have had a number of third-party options available, but now Pebble is making a full effort of its own. The company has rolled out Pebble Health, watch software that tracks your steps and monitors your sleeping.

Pebble's take on the pedometer sets your goals relative to your own personal average, so you won't feel like a failure every time you fail to hit 10,000 steps. Health compiles this information into reports that summarize your progress over time. The information integrates with your timeline to surface automatically, reducing how often you have to go digging.

Speaking of timeline, Pebble is now bringing that user interface to older watches. As promised earlier this month, timeline is making its way to the original Pebble Classic and Steel.

These changes are going out as part of firmware 3.8, which you can get through the companion app. However, Pebble Health is limited to the Pebble Time, Time Steel, and Time Round.

What's New:

  • NEW Pebble Health: natively track steps and sleep, get health insights during the day, and review milestones in your timeline. Available on Time series watches only.
  • Added support for Pebble Classic and and Pebble Steel, including timeline, unlimited apps, and an optimized interface for classic watches.
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements to version 3.7.
  • To update to the latest firmware, select Menu » Support » Update Your Pebble within the Pebble Time app for iOS or Android.
