Google Drive is the hub for all of Google's online document editors, so you might end up with a lot of stuff in there. Google is rolling out some improvements to search that will make it easier to find what you're looking for. The updates will apply to the web and Android (and iOS).
Using the search box, you'll soon be able to specify a file type in your search. So if you've got a number of docs and spreadsheets with similar names, you'll be able to find the right one. There will also be quick access to the advanced search dialog from the search bar. There are a few iOS-specific updates too, which you can read about in the blog post.
Google is making some changes on the back end as well that make search more powerful. You can search for shared files by the name or email of the owner, and advanced search includes options for last date modified, word content, and whom it was shared with. Google says all these features are rolling out in the coming weeks, but we'll keep an eye out for a Drive app update sooner than that.
We've got a new version of the Drive app on APK Mirror. It looks like any of the 2.3.474 builds should enable this feature. I wasn't seeing it earlier in the day with this version, so there might be a server side component. See below for the updated search options. The right two are from the new app and the left one is prior to the update.
