Canada and the US may be neighbors, but that northern border is quite a ways away from most of the contiguous 48 states. It takes a bit of time to drive up from a place like California, and as we know, all Google services must make the trip from San Francisco. Well after nearly half a year of driving, the ad-supported version of Google Play Music has finished the trip to Canada.

The ads aren't the exciting part of this news. No, it's the option to stream Google Play Music Radio stations without a subscription. Canadians now have free access to those Songza-powered playlists based on activity, mood, artists, and genres.

Oh, and Google is shutting down Songza on January 31st. So yeah, there's that.

Google is also welcoming Canadian podcasters to submit their shows for Google Play Music at g.co/podcastportal.
