Google announced Nexus Protect on Tuesday as a way to get a little more peace of mind with your new phone. Nexus Protect is a warranty program that offers two years of coverage for hardware failures and accidental damage. The claims website was just a placeholder before, but now it's alive. Not that you can do much with it.

You can't make a claim on the site yet, but that's understandable as no Nexus Protect-backed devices have shipped yet. You can learn a little more about the program, though. There's a section for general info, FAQs, and details on Assurant, which manages the program for Google. You will eventually be able to file new claims and track existing ones via the My Nexus Protect website.

Nexus Protect costs $69 for the Nexus 5X and $89 for the Nexus 6P. It includes two replacements for broken devices during the two year term, each one with a $79 deductible. Defective phones will still be replaced as always, but you get next business day shipping on all replacements.
