Android now has over 1.4 billion active 30-day users, says Google CEO Sundar Pichai. This is an increase of at least 400 million since Google I/O back in June.

More than one billion people have used the Play Store in a recent 30-day period. Much of this growth is in countries like Indonesia and Vietnam, where Android ownership has doubled in a year thanks to many people buying smartphones for the first time.

Google sees future growth depending on handsets becoming increasingly affordable, which continues to serve as the core purpose behind its Android One initiative. Pichai says General Mobile's offering has been the best selling smartphone in Turkey since launch.

Pichai also said that by the end of this year there will be more Chromebooks than every other device combined in US schools.
