Fans of Madfinger's over-the-top Dead Trigger series have been waiting for a follow-up for some time. Wait no longer, FPS enthusiasts: UNKILLED, the self-styled "best-looking zombie shooter ever made for mobile devices," is now available for wide download on the Play Store. You'll need an Android 4.1 or higher device, about 200MB of storage, and a strong tolerance for shooting things in the face in order to install it, but you won't need any money.
The developers have been hard at work on UNKILLED for a long time - in fact, it's about three months overdue, at least according to the original announcement. The similarities to the Dead Trigger series are pretty apparent: high-end 3D graphics, a variety of undead enemies and weapons (including the Kel-Tec Shotgun, which I've been personally coveting for several years), and lots and lots of bullets. The Play Store description says that there are over 300 missions, which is nice. My initial play testing indicates that the missions are bite-sized, all the better to play on the go on a phone or tablet. UNKILLED is compatible with external controllers for that authentic console feel, and while it's not currently marked as available on Android TV, we're told that it will expand to set-top boxes at some point.
UNKILLED is free to play, with both energy and dual-currency in-app purchase systems, plus collectible cards - it's pretty much what you'd expect from a glitzy high-budget mobile game at this point. That being the case, you can expect to run into a difficulty and/or resource wall at some point that will compel you to either pay or wait. There's also no mention of multiplayer, which is a bit of a bummer.
