Sony hasn't officially announced a second iteration of its SmartBand activity tracker, but it doesn't have to. It's already done the next best thing. Today it has launched a new companion app into the Play Store that's simply titled SmartBand 2.

The app is optimized for Xperia devices, but it's not an exclusive. I was able to install it on my Nexus 5 just fine. Though without a SmartBand 2, I couldn't get very far. Nevertheless, the launch screen mentions pulse training and following your recovery after a workout, hinting at more uses for the new heart rate sensor. Expect more information to show up soon enough.
