Congratulations, owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and LG G Pad 7.0 LTE on Verizon Wireless! You're getting new software updates today (or tomorrow, or next week, since these things tend to go out in batches). But don't pop the champagne just yet, because these updates are decidedly dull.

The Galaxy S4 Mini gets an updated My Verizon app (huzzah), plus a trio of security fixes: a patch that closes a root vulnerability, one that prevents non-Play Store app downloads without the user's knowledge, and one that fixes password problems for Microsoft Exchange accounts. The LG G Pad update removes Redbox instant streaming (because it's dead, Jim), a software toggle for brightness and volume controls in Quick Settings, and a landscape option for the built-in PowerPoint viewer.

That's about it. Remember that you'll need a mostly unmodified device for the update to download and install properly.
