Since time immemorial, Yelp's Android app has been incredibly ugly. That ends today. The redesign that reached beta testing last month has been released to the general public. It's so much nicer than the old one.

Here's the changelog posted by Yelp.

  • Side Navigation: The new side nav menu lets you quickly access Nearby, Search, Add Review/Photo/Check-in, your profile, and more!
  • Search: A cleaner search field gives more space to view search suggestions. The Map link is also now in the upper-right on the search results page.
  • Notifications: The upper-left menu is badged when you receive notifications & messages.

The new layout is worlds better than the old one. The navigation drawer replaces the strange grid of icons on the main screen, and the search interface is much more usable. It has a very material look, but it doesn't seem to be all the way there. There are few touch effects or animations, for example. Still, this is a good day for anyone who uses Yelp. You can grab the update on APK Mirror in case it's not rolling out to you yet.
