AutoInput

Android Police coverage: AutoInput By joaomgcd Is A Tasker Plugin For Automating All Of Your Taps, Swipes, Text Entries, And More

AutoInput is perhaps the most impressive modification of Google's voice-activated system we've seen yet. This powerful app lets you set up custom commands and replies for a crazy amount of apps, tying in with almost anything via the popular Tasker system. (AutoInput doesn't need root to run, though some advanced Tasker functions may need it.) Check out the video for some of the more exotic implementations. A free week-long trial is available, and the full functionality is just $1.35.

You can try out the full version of AutoInput with the built-in 7 day trial. You need to sign in to Google+ to enter the trial so that it stores your trial date on Google's "Cloud Saves" server. You can just set all sharing settings to private if you're concerned about privacy when signing in :) AutoInput is a Tasker plugin. You need to have Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm) installed to use most of its features, so please be aware of that before using it.

Notif Widget Notifications

Android Police coverage: NotifWidget Helps You Fuel Your Notification Addiction By Putting Them On Your Homescreen, Lockscreen, And Daydream

Android L, sorry, Lollipop, redesigns the lockscreen to put notifications front and center. This app seems to want to do a lot of the same things for older devices: it's basically a mirror of your notification bar that can be used as a lockscreen or homescreen widget, or even as a little-used Daydream. Notifications are reproduced more or less exactly, and you can swipe or activate notifications just like you would expect to.

NotifWidget is a widget that let's you interact with your notifications on your lock screen, home screen, and DayDream screen saver. Main features:

  • The notifications look exactly like the original ones. No custom, ugly appearance. Everything just looks as it should.
  • Full control of all actions and media players. If the notification has a reply action or a play/pause action, you can use it directly with this app.
  • Customization: you can choose different clock sizes, colors, background colors, filter notifications, and more.
  • Create as many widgets as you want. One on your home screen, one on your lock screen, use it on DayDream. All can have different options.

Talon for Twitter

Android Police coverage: Talon For Twitter (Plus) With Material Design UI Now Available For Android 5.0 Devices

Talon for Twitter is now available in a "Plus" form for Android 5.0, complete with a Material Design user interface. Unfortunately the previous app has hit its token limit (suck it, Twitter) and so the developer released the code as open source and de-published it. That makes this version of Talon the only one available to new users - and only new users on Lollipop, which isn't very many at all right now.

Talon like never before. Bold and beautiful. All material, all speed. Created with Android Lollipop and Material Design at it's center. Talon (Plus) includes stunning and beautiful layouts, eye catching animations, the smoothness you should expect from the latest and greatest apps, plus so much more. This isn't the Talon of the past, it has been fully rebuilt around Android 5.0 (and is only supported on 5.0) to give you the most power, speed, and style possible.

XDA One (Alpha)

Android Police Coverage: XDA-Developers Releases Its Own Forum App In Alpha, Can't Resist Calling It 'XDA One'

The famous XDA-Developers forum has released official browser apps for its site before, but this is the first one being developed in-house. It's in alpha at the moment, and not on the Play Store, but the designers are approaching it with a Material Design attitude from the ground up. That said, it's very basic at the moment. If you're happy with the current versions, you might want to wait it out.

--

In its current (alpha) state, XDA One is a fast (and nice-looking) way to browse and post in the forums. You can access our mention/quote system, see your subscriptions, send PMs, and more. In the future we plan to add tools for moderators, integration with our Development Database, support for tablets, and more to make it the "One" place to experience all of XDA on mobile.

Potential Beta

Android Police coverage: Potential Beta Can Sync Your Battery Life Across All Of Your Devices And Look Good Doing It [Hands-On]

Wondering if it's worth swinging by your apartment to pick up your tablet for that all-day trip? Whether or not it's charged is probably a big part of that, and Potential can tell you its current battery level. Clue - Period Tracker

Android Police coverage: Ladies, Clue Is The Pink-Less, Flower-Less, and Butterfly-Less Period Tracker You May Not Be Ashamed Of Using

Rita El Khoury wrote up the Android Police feature on this period tracker, for reasons that should be obvious - the rest of us don't have, uh, compatible hardware. According to her, it's a great and surprisingly straightforward app for women to keep track of their monthly cycle. It could use an easier way to input past information, though, and a method for syncing what you do put in.

Clue predicts dates for your next period, PMS and the days you’re more or less likely to get pregnant. Are your moods related to your cycle? Just track what you’d like to know more about, and Clue takes care of the rest. The period tracker you’ve been waiting for: confident, scientific - and not pink.

  • Know when your next period is coming.
  • Get a reminder about your next period.
  • Know which days you’re more or less likely to get pregnant.
  • Track PMS, ovulation, sex, pain, mood, and cervical fluid.
  • Find the unique patterns of your cycle.

Glympse Express

Android Police coverage: Glympse Releases Android Exclusive Express App That Strips The Location Sharing Service To Just The Essentials

Glympse Express is like Glympse, only... slightly less so. It's for sharing a temporary location with contacts in pretty much every major chat app (or an old-fashioned email or copied text string) and not much else. This edition of the app will let you share your location for a set amount of time, but it doesn't include the mapping, history, or integrated chat features of the "full" app.

Ever wished that you could add the temporary location feature from Glympse to WhatsApp, Google Hangouts, or Facebook Messenger? Well now you can. Glympse Express enables you to quickly share a temporary link so others can see your location on a live map. Open Glympse Express and simply select the app in which you wish to share location. Glympse Express creates a link to your live map and opens the app you selected so you can paste it into the appropriate conversation.

BrainWave (beta)

Android Police coverage: BrainWave Lets You Control Your Favorite Android Music App With Hand Gestures (Not Brainwaves)

Put your phone down on a flat surface. Start this app, then your favorite music player. Control your music with hand waives like a Jedi. BrainWave uses a phone's front-facing camera to activate the play/pause or forward/back functions of popular music players, in a very cool but not altogether useful bit of Android ingenuity. You don't need root to try this app out, but you do need a bright room and a stable surface - an external speaker probably wouldn't hurt, either.

Love listening to music via your favorite music player (Pandora, iHeart, Spotify, Google Play Music, etc.)? Now you can control your favorite music players simply by using natural hand gestures. By downloading the BrainWave app, powered by Ari™ technology, you can Play, Pause, and Select tracks with the ease of waving your hand over the phone/tablet -- without ever unlocking the phone or touching the screen. For ease of use, we’ve optimized BrainWave to detect gestures from 1 foot to almost 3 feet away.

Skype Qik: Group Video Chat

Android Police coverage: Skype Qik Repurposes Old Brand For A New And Quirky Video Messaging App

Qik is dead. Long live Qik. Microsoft subsidiary Skype has repurposed its old video chat application into, well, a new video chat application, though in effect it's focused more on (sigh) short video messages than live chats. If that sounds familiar, it should. If you're looking for more conventional video messaging, well, it's been included in the main Skype app for a while now.

Introducing Skype Qik (say “quick”), a free* video messenger made for capturing moments and sharing laughs throughout your day. Set up a group and immediately start shooting and swapping videos. Send something to crack your friends up, or show off a new dance move—whatever you want. New messages are added to a chat that you can watch like a movie with a single tap. Qik even lets you erase your video right out of the chat.**

Microsoft Xim

Android Police coverage: Microsoft Xim Is A Neat Way To Share Photos Without Actually Sharing Them

Microsoft has a lot of apps available for Android, but Xim is probably the weirdest one yet. It allows you and friends to view photos together, and I mean really together - swiping through photos on your phone will make them advance on the other guy's phone, more like a presentation than an app. The "Xim" disappears after a while, making for a decently private experience if the other parties don't know how to take screenshots.

Share your photos, not your phone. Xim your photos on your camera roll or favorite service to your friends’ devices. Swipe, pan and zoom together for all to enjoy, even those who don’t have the app.

• Xim will initially be available in US and Canada only; we plan to add additional country support shortly

• Stop huddling around one small screen – xim instead so everyone can see the images on their own device

• Xims swipe and zoom together, so everyone stays in sync automatically – it’s fun too

• Only one person needs to have Xim installed in order for everyone to participate

• Invite people from your phone’s contact list, via email or via phone number

Snowball Beta

Android Police coverage: Snowball, Backed By Google Ventures, Is A Multi-App Chat Heads Alternative That's Missing One Crucial Feature

Snowball is an oddball. It uses the same basic idea as the floating Chat Heads feature from the Facebook app, but it takes in messages from a variety of texting apps, including Facebook, Snapchat, Whatsapp, Hangouts, and the default SMS app. But unlike Chat Heads, and pretty much every texting app available, this is an inbox only - you can view messages, but not reply to them - tapping on any single message will boot you out into the applicable app.

Snowball shows messages from all your favorite social apps in ONE place. It’s the fastest way to talk to your friends. Snowball is *not* another messaging app. It organizes your messages from the apps you already love providing you with a single, easy-to-access place to view everything. Snowball supports: Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, SMS, Hangouts, Twitter, Line, WeChat, and Slack with more apps coming soon.

Bing Rewards

Android Police coverage: Microsoft Brings Bing Rewards App To Android, Doesn't Pay You In Google Play Credit

So Microsoft is pretty eager for people to use its Bing search engine. How eager, you ask? So eager that it's giving away free stuff just for doing so. Eager enough, in fact, that it's made an Android app specifically to look at the stuff you can earn by using Bing instead of Google. Hey, it's better than the Samsung Continuum business, I suppose.

With the Bing Rewards app you can

• Manage your account, earn credits, enter sweepstakes and find new ways to earn every day

• Redeem credits for great rewards from Amazon.com, Starbucks, Xbox and many more

• Check your current status and find out how to get to the next level

• Track your order history and ensure you received all the items you ordered with your hard earned credits

Acorns - Invest Spare Change

Acorns is an app that monitors your transactions on debit and credit cards and invests the change from each purchase into a personalized version of the company's mutual fund. It's specifically designed for people in their late teens and twenties, who lack the assets (and perhaps the will) to invest in conventional ways. It's an interesting idea, to be sure, and the costs are low at $1 a month and a .5% broker fee.

Acorns is an app, FREE to download, that invests your spare change from everyday transactions into your very own diversified portfolio. You can easily get started in minutes: anytime, anywhere. A simple and intelligent automatic investment system not only helps you invest regularly but also optimizes your investment through diversification and automatic rebalancing. A Soft Murmur

Ah, white noise. The one thing that can help you both work and sleep. A Soft Murmur wants to help you do both with a collection of repeating sounds that can be played offline and on top of each other, including rain, waves, birds, crickets, and some other generally soothing stuff. The interface looks a bit like a chalkboard. Meander Mode varies the intensity of each sound, creating a randomized experience. A $1.49 in-app purchase opens up all the sounds.

Find the perfect mix of background noise to help you relax, study, work or sleep. A Soft Murmur is great whenever you want to block out distractions. Download once, listen whenever and where you like. All sounds are stored locally and there are no ads or other network requests. Other ambient sound apps have annoying gaps or clicks when the player reaches the end of a track and loops back to the beginning. A Soft Murmur plays totally seamless and uninterrupted audio so it never interrupts your focus.

Hey look, a shiny new LiveJournal app! If you're still on the relatively dated blogging platform, you'll be glad to know that the new app finally updates the interface and brings the speed up a bit. LootXP: Steam codes, Giveaways

LootXP is a website that gives away digital goods for popular video games. These can come in the form of free Steam codes, discounts on paid games, or other goodies like DLC. It's essentially an advertising platform for game publishers, but watching the incoming deals closely (a la Woot) can net you some pretty sweet extras in PC and console games. Sadly, this app is merely a way to sign in and claim goodies - there's no Play Store integration just yet.

LootXP is an app that gives you the best perks gaming has to offer, including free Steam codes, beta keys, in-game items, free games, early access accounts, discount keys, rewards, virtual currency, gift pack giveaways, bundles, DLC, vouchers, sweepstakes, prizes, contests, and much more. Best of all, it's all free. Visit us now at http://www.lootxp.com/ and join us. Let’s loot together.

Fancred

Are you a fan of SPORTS? No you're not. If you were a real SPORTS fan, you would already be using Fancred. This somewhat intense application combines elements of Instagram, Foursquare, and Delicious, but only for SPORTS. It does include a ton of SPORTS teams, almost 3000 across various SPORTS. That being said, there's nothing in this app that you can't already do elsewhere. Without the SPORTS.

Fancred is an app for capturing your favorite sports moments. You’ve been to some awesome sporting events, haven’t you? Probably even seen some amazing plays, taken killer photos, and made memories with friends that will last a lifetime. How did you capture all those sports moments? Exactly. There is no app to capture every aspect of your sports life. That’s why we built Fancred… to help capture those sports moments so that you can relive them whenever, wherever, right from your phone.

Obscure – Share what you want

Obscure is basically a mix between Instagram and the Game Boy Camera. It includes basic filters and some kiddie-grade editing tools that lend themselves well to the mobile interface, but serious editing is out. When you send a photo to someone else, they can continue to edit it. There's also an odd "privacy scrambler" for the built-in messaging client. If you're a fan of the goofy social network photo, this one's for you, but everyone else probably already has a go-to app for this sort of thing.

Apply interactive filters to pictures, and send them to your friends. They can play with each picture, or request to see the original. Ever wish you can take back that not-too-awesome picture or message? Obscure’s got you covered – You are always in control of what you send, and anything can be deleted from their device, too. Ever feel like someone is looking over your shoulder reading your messages? Obscure can help with that – Turn on the text filter to scramble messages.

comiXchat

I don't understand the appeal of this app - you trade your standard photo or icon avatar for a hand-drawn comic book character, and you and the other party make a sort of comic book with the usual text bubbles. Except that 90% of the chat sessions I have are about where to meet or when someone will be available... which would make for an awfully boring comic book. Still, I suppose some users might find it entertaining.

comiXchat is a messaging app that displays chats through hand-drawn-like comics as they happen – and it’s all completely automatic. You, and other friends with the app, can send messages, attach photos and have group chats, just like you’re used to, while comiXchat senses the tone and attitude of the conversation and draws it as if it was a comic book story. Did that turn out too cool for you? comiXchat will turn it into a pro-comics strip look you can go viral with on Facebook, Pinterest, Reddit or anything you’ve got.

Samba: Videos + Reactions

Samba is essentially the same as Vine or Instagram's video option, but it focuses on the reactions of the people you send your video to. As they watch, it records their reaction via the front-facing camera on the phone, then sends it back to the original user. Interesting, but only really useful if you and your circle of friends constantly send videos back and forth.

Watch your friends REACT as they view your VIDEO MESSAGE. Samba lets you be witty, emotional, sexy, funny, creative, or anything else your heart desires...and see how your friends really feel about it. You send them the video, their reactions are recorded and sent back to you, and the video message experience is closer, more honest, and more fun. Who’s ready to Samba?

Android Police coverage: Now That Zoe 1.0 Has Gone Live In The Play Store, Look For HTC To Spread It To More Devices

HTC updated its odd Vine-style Zoe app after the Desire Eye announcement, packing in a few new features for the camera-focused push the company is making this fall. While the event said that the app would be opened up to more non-HTC devices, that doesn't seem to be the case just yet.
