Welcome to the latest entry in our Bonus Round series, wherein we tell you all about the new Android games of the day that we couldn't get to during our regular news rounds. Consider this a quick update for the dedicated gamers who can't wait for our bi-weekly roundups, and don't want to wade through a whole day's worth of news just to get their pixelated fix. Today we've got a good-looking platform-puzzle game, an old-school 2D hack-and-slash title, and a unique take on the Tempest formula. Without further ado:
The main character of Munin is one of Odin's mythical ravens whose wings have been torn off. The now earthbound Munin must navigate across the platforming world, spinning and rotating the landscape to progress and solve puzzles. The game's background story and art are interesting, and 81 levels should make for quite a bit of playtime, but reviews of the recent PC release say that the gameplay is a one-trick pony. If you want something pretty and distracting, Munin might be worth your three dollars.
Imagine you could move mountains - literally. With realistic physics, Norse runes, rotating platforms and a lot of gray cells you'll help Munin, Odin's messenger in her very own 2D-adventure, to reclaim her power on a journey through Yggdrasil. Munin the raven, faithful messenger to Odin, now stands stripped of wings and transformed by Loki into a mortal girl. Flightless and determined, she will stride through the nine worlds of Yggdrasil to reclaim the lost feathers and return to Asgard.
The latest title from retro experts Ravenous doesn't stray far from their comfort zone. In Devious Dungeon you'll hack and slash your way through randomly-generated stages, assisted by the developer's tight controls and RPG mechanics for loot and leveling. If you've played League of Evil or Random Heroes there's nothing here you haven't seen, but the "8-bit" graphics seem to have been upgraded to 16. In-app purchases for extra currency are annoying, but don't seem to be requisite to win.
Devious Dungeon is a medieval action platforming game by the creators of Random Heroes and League of Evil. The catacombs under the Kingdom are infested with evil creatures. You must venture deep within the dungeons eliminating the threat. Slay monsters, collect loot, level up and upgrade your gear. Only a true champion will be victorious.
Spinrush is a deceptively simple game that has a new sp... er, take on the Tempest-style shooter. Your ship moves constantly in a circle while the beams beneath it spin opposite. Shoot when the beams that match your current color are weak and you'll clear them. Clear them all and you get a time bonus. The targets get smaller as the layers get thicker, and messing up means losing time. It's simple and addictive - you'll need excellent timing and reflexes to rack up the points.
Test your skills with this addictive and extremely easy to control arcade game in which you'll have to destroy discs that are the same color as your ship. It may seem easy at first, but the discs will spin faster and faster and it'll become a total challenge that will get you hooked while you fight for a new high score.
• Neverending arcade game that will test your eye-hand coordination like no other.
• Easy to control and highly addictive
• Access Frenzy Mode to get more points
• Check your scores and upload the best one
