Bills Reminder Lite

Today's roundup is presented by Bills Reminder from HandyApps. The intent and function of the app is simple: it reminds you to pay your bills on time, which is great if you like to use things like electricity and insurance. The interface is fantastic, with a fully customizable database, color-coded bills, and the ability to amend photos for bills or invoices. The lite app is the first widget below, and the full app below that is $3.99.

Keep getting those nasty late payment fees? Download this mobile bill organizer into your Android smartphone now and get daily reminders to pay your bills on time every time! No more easy money for the banks!

Simply key in your payment amount and due date and this bill tracker app will notify you in advance when your bill payment is coming due. With this handy mobile payment tracker with you at all times, now you don't have to worry about forgetting to pay your bills while you go about your busy schedule!

How Bills Reminder works:

  • Enter your bill payment amount and the due date via an intuitive user interface.
  • By default, Bills Reminder will start to remind you of the payment 5 days before the due date. The number of days in advance can be customized for each bill but the default is set to 5 days. (You can change the default setting as well)
  • Bill Reminders will fire off reminder notifications every day at a preset time (default is 8:00am) until you have paid your bill. Your device LED will also flash a distinct orange color to indicate that a bill payment is coming due.
  • Unlike other bill tracking apps, Bills Reminders will always fire off when the bill payment is coming due, no matter whether you have opened the app or not or whether you have rebooted your device.
  • You can also setup recurring bill reminders. The repeating period is extremely flexible, you can set bill reminders to repeat every X days, weeks, months or year. (Eg. every 2 weeks, every 6 days, every 1 month etc.)
  • You can also capture or attach photos of bills, invoices, receipts alongside each bill reminder you created. This is helpful when it comes to actually making the payment. All the information is already stored in the app, so there is no need to go and find that paper bill statement.
  • Paid Bills/Invoices/receipts can be kept for future reference

With all those late fees saved, this bill tracking app will pay for itself in no time!

News+ | Google News RSS Reader

Android Police coverage: [New App] News+, From Developer Of gReader, Hits The Play Store With Loads Of Features And Multi-Service Support

Greader has been a reliable staple of alternative RSS readers, doubly so since Google Reader folded. Now the developer has created a new RSS reader from the ground up to better take advantage of the post-Reader world, not to mention a few of the UI innovations Android has introduced. It supports all the major players, including Google News itself and Pocket, though Feedly is noticeably absent. Extension support for more services and features is baked in.

Since Google has decided to shutdown Google Reader, lots of new and innovative RSS services have arose to light. Many of those services appeared as worthy replacements, and even an upgrade. We couldn’t choose just one or two, and we also had to make some decisions about how our work will continue. We decided not to pick. We created a new app that is the successor of gReader, taking it’s features and functionality but supports as many reading services as possible: News+.

Dolphin Zero

Android Police coverage: [New App] Dolphin Zero Keeps The Browser Features And Dumps The Tracking, Because The Internet Is For Porn

As a wise puppet once said, the Internet is for porn. While most of the privacy-centric features in Dolphin Zero can be had by switching to Incognito mode in Chrome or the similar feature in Dolphin, this version of the app runs silently all the time. No history, no cache, no saved data of any kind. What's the advantage? Well, having a separate browser for "sensitive" topics means you won't have to keep switching between modes all the time, and you don't run the risk of forgetting to switch to Incognito when you really need it.

Dolphin Zero is my private browser. Browse the web with the highest level of privacy possible using Dolphin Zero. A streamlined privacy focused browser, Dolphin Zero brings peace of mind to users who wish to keep their personal information as safe as possible by automatically deleting data including browsing history, cache, passwords and cookies that are otherwise saved on the device.

AllCast

Android Police coverage: Koush's AllCast Streaming App Is Now Available In Free and Premium Flavors On The Play Store

Koushik "Koush" Dutta started the AllCast app as an unofficial Chromecast streamer. Since Google has patched that particular feature, it's now a more general streaming app for video and photos, connecting to Apple TV and DLNA devices including the Xbox 360 and Roku. The app is still very much in beta - it doesn't even support music at the moment - but you can try it out for free. To stream more than 60 seconds of media you'll need the unlock app.

AllCast lets you send photos and videos on your Android's to your TV. AllCast supports:

  • Roku
  • Apple TV
  • Xbox 360, Xbox One
  • Samsung Smart TVs
  • Panasonic Smart TVs

Coach's Eye Free

Android Police coverage: Coach's Eye Instant Replay App Goes From $4.99 To Free, Offers Special Gift For Users Of Paid Version

We've covered the amazing Coach Eye before, but apparently there weren't enough users willing to shell out five bucks, even for such an impressive and targeted application. Coaches can now get in on the video analysis app for free, and those who bought it before now get access to all the paid in-app purchases for the various sports the app supports. A $5 everything unlock is still the best value, but only if you intend to use the app for multiple games.

You can’t fix what you can’t see. Coach's Eye provides video capture with slow-motion review, drawing tools, and simple sharing. Improve your game with on-the-spot video analysis. Record your players and instantly show them how to improve, right on the field. Refine your pitcher's fastball, analyze your golf swing, easily break down a volleyball serve, improve soccer skills, or even demonstrate weightlifting form. Every coach, parent and athlete needs the edge Coach's Eye delivers.

The long-overdue app includes all of the trailers, reviews, and periodic news that the site is known for, and all of it is categorized and tagged for easy searching. I can't help but feel miffed that this app is literally years late, but I suppose beggars can't be choosers.

This is the best of GT all in one place. Watch all of your favorite GT Original shows, in-depth game reviews and the latest trailers on your Android phone or tablet.Whether you want to see the latest rant from the Angry Video Game Nerd, predictions from Michael Pachter or opinions from Geoff Keighley on the Bonus Round, we have you covered. MTV

Android Police coverage: [New App] MTV Releases A Full Episode App, But Cable Cord-Cutters Need Not Apply

It's about time that MTV made a mobile app - I'm sure their non-cable viewers are ready to watch all those... what's that? You still need cable to watch the full episodes? Wonderful. And to add insult to injury, the app leaves some big cable companies and their customers out in the cold, including Comcast and DISH Network. If you're not a cable customer, you can still see video clips and "news" in the more general area of the app.

Watch MTV shows from your favorite Android device. Just sign in with your TV provider to watch recent episodes from select MTV series anytime and anywhere. Access is included with your TV subscription to participating providers. If your provider isn’t currently participating, don’t panic. We are working hard to get all TV providers to participate. You won’t need to sign in to watch tons of other great video from MTV shows - sneak peeks, after shows, bonus clips and exclusive content from your favorite MTV series.

Hangouts Widget

Hangouts is a pretty great app overall, but it's missing a widget. Developer RSen has fixed that shortcoming with a simple Holo homescreen widget that displays the latest text or IM from your contacts in a scrollable list. Awesome, simple, free - any Hangouts addict should download this thing right away.

Fast, Simple, Elegant. A homescreen widget to show messages (or SMS) received in Google Hangouts. Fully resizable and shows your messages at a glance. Because of limitations to the Android system, only new Hangouts will be shown. You must first install Google Hangouts. :)

SkipLock (Trial)

Here's a neat idea: get rid of your lock screen when you don't want it. If you're connected to your home WiFi network or your Bluetooth headset, it's a pretty safe bet that you don't need the security of a lockscreen. SkipLock gets rid of your pattern or PIN lock when you're connected to a selected network or device, then re-locks your phone when you're out of range. It's sort of like the Motorola Skip, but applicable to any phone. The app is a trial, so you'll have to pay for the feature once the time is up.

Tired of entering your password all the time? SkipLock lets you skip past the lock screen when you're connected to a designated wifi or bluetooth device. When you're at home or in your car, your phone is safe and you don't need to be typing in your password all the time. When you're connected to your wifi network, or a trusted bluetooth device, you can go straight to the home screen when you press the power button. You can even have it keep the phone unlocked while you're connected to a bluetooth keychain, headset, or car. As soon as the phone gets out of range, it locks.

Solar : Weather

How pretty does your forecast need to be? If you answered "so pretty that my eyes will melt just looking at it," then Solar is for you. It doesn't really do much of anything that other weather apps don't do, but a combination of shifting colors and surprisingly intuitive gestures means it's just stunning to look at. If Google Now or the News Widget is just too stark for you, give Solar a try.

Solar: An exquisitely designed weather app. No vector polygons, no dew point calibration and it won't remind you to wear a jacket. Just radiant colorscapes and precision forecasting. A modern meteorological tech-cessory for the aesthetically-inspired.

  • AD FREE - No clutter
  • EXCLUSIVE 24 Hour scrolling forecast feature.
  • GPS Weather data based on BestForecast™ by Wunderground.com™ to deliver unrivaled local neighborhood forecasts.
  • U.S. current conditions data comes from over 42,000 weather stations across the country.

Event Flow Calendar Widget

Widgets make everything better. If you insist that your homescreen and lockscreen widgets look good, you'll want to check out Event Flow. It comes in both standard calendar and agenda versions, both of which combine a little Holo style with transparency and a lot of class. The standard version is free, but upgrade and you'll get a few visual options as well.

Event Flow is a clean and beautiful calendar widget that displays your agenda or calendar, with lots of features and customization options.

  • Two widgets: agenda view and month view
  • Weather info on agenda view
  • Customized appearance
  • Select calendars to display
  • Show your calendar colors

This widget is free, but some configuration options are locked. To unlock, click "upgrade" and you'll be able to buy the premium version via Google Play.

Calendar Status

This is a simple app: all it does is place the agenda from your calendar in your status bar. It's a useful trick, but not for everyone, so give it a try if you keep your calendar mostly on your full-sized PC (or you're looking for an easy way to check it from the lockscreen). The display is pretty basic, but it's adjustable in a lot of different ways.

Accessibility & Style, this is what it's all about. Aren't you tired of opening apps, placing widgets and all for looking your next event location? Have you ever tried finding your agenda while in call? Calendar Status provides the easiest agenda access you have ever seen. All you have to do is pull the status bar and everything you want will be presented.

Polar Beat - Fitness Coach

Fitness apps are nothing new, but this one is impressively designed and offers planning, training, and tracking data functions. The mapping option for runners alone looks better (or at least cleaner) than alternatives. Designers take note: Polar is a good example of how a few strategic deviations from the Holo standard can be beneficial. On top of all that, it includes support for Polar's branded Bluetooth sensors.

Do you want to get slimmer, run faster, or go further? Since 1977 millions of people have used the expertise and guidance from Polar to reach their training goals. Now you can use this same know-how with your mobile to make it your smart training companion. For now, Polar Beat works with Samsung Galaxy S4. Please note that measuring heart rate has not been reliably tested with other Android devices yet.

reicast - a dreamcast emulator

Soon, my precious. Soon I will be able to play Power Stone 2 on my phone. We've seen all manner of emulators for Android, but most of them have been for primarily 2D consoles like the Super NES. The Reicast looks like it's the first Dreamcast emulator for this or any mobile platform with a real future. The emulator is still in alpha at the moment, so device and game support is spotty at best, but the developers are already making impressive progress.

reicast is a multi-platform Dreamcast emulator. The project is currently in Alpha, usability, performance and stability issues are to be expected. We'll fix them the following weeks. As we only have a few android devices, we'd really love to see your videos of it running. Cortex-A9 dualcore, 1ghz+ is the minimum hardware for decent speeds. The Dreamcast BIOS is required for this emulator to work.

PPLCONNECT

There are already a few ways to make calls and texts from something other than your phone, but I must say, none of them look quite so integrated as this app and service. It connects either a separate Android device or a standard PC browser to your phone virtually, allowing you to send texts and calls from your number without ever touching your phone. The interface is pretty slick, but you'll need to keep the background service alive on your phone for it to work - some kind of push functionality would be handy.

PPLCONNECT (beta) is a free app which lets you access and use your smartphone from any web-enabled device. For all those who wish they could SMS from their computer, Call from their tablet, and much more (without changing their number), Yes, PPLCONNECT can do that. The PPLCONNECT Android app Links your smartphone to your Virtual Smartphone. Once Installed & Linked, you can then log-in to your Virtual Smartphone on any device via the Chrome browser at: pplco.mobi.

Soundrop

Just how many streaming music services can the Play Store take before the music section reaches critical mass? At least one more, apparently. Soundrop features most of the tick marks in the list of standard music functions, with semi-random playlists in various genres and dedicated to some artists. The hook is that you're using a Pandora-style service with your Facebook or Twitter friends. You vote on the next track in any particular station, and the one with the most votes wins. If you prefer a little democracy in your music, it's a free download.

The social music sensation comes to Android. Join a Soundrop room and listen to music together with your friends or other fans. Pick a genre room like Chill Out, Dubstep or Indie Wok, explore rooms built around themes, or even rooms dedicated to your favorite artists. Discover and enjoy music with friends and other fans from all over the world. Download Soundrop for Android today.

Player for UAL2

If you haven't heard of Youarelistening.to, you're not alone: it's a strange mix of police scanners and ambient noise that's meant to represent an entire city in audio form. This is an unofficial app for that service, giving a nice clean interface to the various mega-cities that Youarelistening.to supports. Interesting, but not really a music app in the conventional sense.

"Player for UAL2" is a native Android app for youarelistening.to. Youarelistening.to is a mashup of ambient, relaxing music and police scanner radio, which lets you feel the "vibe" of a city. The app aims to offer this experience on your mobile device using a beautiful, minimalistic user interface.

  • SEAMLESS SWITCHING: Police scanner broadcasts and SoundCloud-tracks can be changed independently of each other
  • FULL VOLUME CONTROL: You can adjust the volume of the music and the police scanner individually
  • NOTIFICATION BAR INTEGRATION: If playing in the background, the app can be controlled through notification bar toggles
  • OFFLINE MODE (coming soon): An upcoming version will allow you to listen to your favorite city offline.

Recollect

To-do lists are only useful if you're actually in a position to get things done, which is why Recollect presents you with a list based on location rather than time. It brings the tasks back into focus as you get close to them. For example, if you're driving by the grocery store, it will remind you to pick up the eggs, bacon, and Jim Beam (the breakfast of champions). Naturally it supports the usual deadline function as well, and the expandable widget is handy.

Recollect—the to-do list that follows you around. Capture your tasks and reminders based on specific places like “the house” and “my office,” or more general place types like "any pharmacy" or “all bookstores.” As you go about your day, Recollect reminds you of the things you need to do so you can focus on what matters most. You just might find what you’re looking for.

Timera

You've almost certainly seen comparisons between photos of the past and the same spot in the present. This app is built around that idea, specifically the ability to combine a new shot from your phone's camera with an older one from the same location. Of course it doesn't work just anywhere - you'll need to find specific spots in major cities with the help of an in-app Google Maps layer. Geotagging is included.

Timera is the closest thing to a time machine for your smartphone. It turns your phone into a time camera where you can stand in the shoes of past photographers and create amazing combinations of old photographs coupled with views from your camera. You can contribute to the timera community and add to the growing collection of old photos and geo tag them from your phone or on our site.

Camera Album

Camera Album aims to end the confusion of a universal camera directory, instead allowing you to select which folder (kids, work, landscapes, documents, yadda yadda) your photo goes into before you take it. The app runs as a background service watching for new photos, and a handy homescreen widget lets you manually change the destination. There's no way to automatically change the destination based on time or location, but if you want to make your phone's storage a little less cluttered, it could be worth a download.

No more thousands of photos in one gallery. Do you have pile of pictures taken by your mobile? Do you have family photos mixed together with work photos? Do you want to keep an order in the gallery? With Camera Album it is very easy. Application Camera Album automatically transfers the captured photos and videos (taken with your favorite camera- app) to the selected album (directory). You can create multiple albums (eg. Family, Work, Trip to Paris, Mountain 2014 ...) and quickly switch between them before taking photo.

Preferences Manager

Imagine Preferences Manager as a sort of Android version of the Windows Registry editor. (It isn't, but a lot of the effects are the same.) In addition to allowing you to modify much of the user-facing settings in all your apps, it will also let you adjust most of the settings that aren't normally visible. Keep in mind, this is the sort of thing that can break an app - or even your entire phone - if you make a wrong step. It's not for the faint of heart... or those without root access.

Preferences Manager is an Open Source application that allows you to seamlessly edit application's preferences. Android provides several options for developers to save application data. The most frequent solution is the Shared Preferences framework. It's a simple way to store private primitive data in key-value pairs. Unfortunately, this method is not very secure... It consists in a simple XML file stored in the private folder, specific to the app. But in the case of a rooted device, theses files can be read, edited and even deleted.

Pozool POS Bar/Restaurant free

The waiter's pad seems like something that hasn't changed in a couple of hundred years, because it really doesn't need to. The makers of Pozool beg to differ: they think that the dining experience (or at least that of the diner owner) can be enhanced with a smartphone or tablet. Of course this should allow for precise calculations and menus, but the real value is data exporting via the print function. Surprisingly, the app is free.

Pozool Point of sales (POS) is a free, fast and light touch-screen solution designed for bars, coffee shops and restaurants. Pozool POS system has incredible easy-to-use interfaces. This POS android application focus in point of sales for bars, coffee shops, buffets, and restaurants. Our mission is that you find an affordable way to help organize and control your business. This point of sales is an excellent choice for new bars, coffee shops and restaurants as an option for not buying an expensive cashier system or expensive software.

Mosaic Photo Books

If you're a shutterbug and you need a unique gift, then Mosaic Photo Books might be worthy of consideration. It lets you combine a collection of photos into a real book with the unique mosaic layout, then order a copy for yourself (or anyone else) for just twenty bones. The app is the only way to do it - there is no web interface - and it was previously restricted to iOS devices.

Create a stunning printed photo book from your phone in a snap. Just $20, arrives in 4 days. Reviewed by USA Today, Forbes Travel Guide, MacRumors, Uncrate, The Verge, Daily Candy, Maxim, and many more. Pick any 20 photos from your phone and make a photobook in minutes. Mosaic has a unique photo collage cover, high quality printed photos, and makes the perfect gift.

Text Fiction

If you're a fan of the old Choose Your Own Adventure games, it might surprise you that the same style of fiction has been flourishing on the web for years. This app is an interface for a popular standard of these stories, Z-Machine, styled after a generic SMS app. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you're tired of zooming through pages and pages of adventure text in your browser, you should check it out.

Bored of runner games? Tired of farming coins? Ready for entertainment that focus on depth and story instead of mindless and repetitive button mashing? Then welcome to the world of Interactive Fiction (aka Text Adventures). Here every game is a story waiting to unfold as you guide your alter ego by texting where to go and what to do next. Text Fiction is a Z-Machine story interpreter (aka terp) with a modern, SMS style user interface for playing Z-Code games like the famous Zork trilogy.

Simple.TV

Simple.TV is basically a cable DVR without the cable, designed for recording and playing back free over-the-air signals. (Some DVRs can do this, of course, but few are optimized for it.) The new Android app does the standard duty of letting you watch the recorded shows on your phone or tablet, and there are no restrictions on WiFi or 3G use. Bonza.

A Simple.TV network connected DVR at home lets you watch, pause, and record free over-the-air HDTV. Now watch your favorite live and recorded television shows from Android phone or tablet. With Simple.TV and an HDTV antenna, you can cut the cord and ditch your cable provider, while still enjoying your favorite broadcast TV shows. Simple.TV is a full featured DVR with all the bells and whistles, a rich EPG (electronic program guide) to browse what’s on, and series recording so that your favorite shows will be ready when you are.

Gameloft Pad for LG TV

Now here's a neat idea: using your smartphone as an infinitely-extensible controller for games built into your television. Gameloft is hoping to promote its own titles on LG's smart televisions with a free controller app, which should be more precise (if somewhat less tactile) than the remote. Right now game support is limited, and of course you'll need an LG smart TV to get the games in the first place.

Play Gameloft’s LG TV games like never before with this LG controller app. With this app you can use your phone as a controller as you play on your LG TV. All you need to do is pair your device and TV through the same Wi-Fi network and let the fun begin.

XFINITY TV X1 Remote

Android Police coverage: [New App] Comcast Releases XFINITY TV X1 Remote With Voice Commands For Controlling Its Latest X1 Platform Boxes

Another new cable box, another remote app. This is great news if you use this particular model, the "X1," but everyone else can ignore it. It's got the usual control buttons and an ace up its sleeve in the form of a voice command function (just like the one in those annoying DirecTV commercials). A few basic programming recommendations round out the package.

Designed exclusively for XFINITY TV on the X1 Platform, the XFINITY TV X1 Remote lets XFINITY TV customers use their Android device to control their TVs like never before. The app is a replacement for the remote, but better. Customers can navigate by XFINITY On Demand, search for programs, and tune to content with voice commands and the on screen remote control.

LEGO® Building Instructions

Android Police coverage: [New App] LEGO Makes Building Instructions Available In The Play Store, But You Need An Old Tablet To View Them

This is brilliant. Parents know that LEGO instructions tend to go missing almost as fast as the pieces, so the company has released an official instruction app as a free download. Unfortunately there are a few drawbacks: at the moment only two LEGO sets are supported, and even worse, you'll need one of just two officially supported tablets (the original Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 2) to use it.

Build the LEGO TECHNIC Hot Rod (42022) or the Rally Racer using our new cool digital building instructions. The official app LEGO® Building Instructions is FREE to download for tablet devices.

● Select the Hot Rod or the Rally Racer

● Zoom, pan and spin 360 degrees
