Acer tablet owners across the country were elated (well, most of them were, anyway) when Acer announced that Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming to the A100 and A500 in April. Thanks to a new leak that made its way to XDA, though, the wait for April just got a lot shorter. Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for both devices landed in their respective forum on XDA earlier today, bringing a taste of Android 4.0 to the duo.

While early reports have been pretty positive, it appears that these aren't quite final builds just yet. Most noticeably, the "Acer Ring," which is supposed to appear in the official OTA builds, is absent from these leaks. Still, they both appear to provide a fluid stock experience, so if you've been aching to see what ICS is all about on your A500 or A100, hit the links below to download.

Flashing this ROM on the A100 will break root with no way of getting it back at this point.

ICS for the Acer A100 | ICS for the Acer A500

Installation Instructions

A100

  • Download the file from the source link
  • Rename it to 'update.zip' (no quotes) and place it on your external SD card
  • Shut the device down and reboot into recovery by holding Volume Up while pressing Power
  • The update should start automatically

A500

Requires RA Recovery if you want to keep root.

[important] I highly recommend reading through the thread at XDA before attempting to flash this. [/important]

  • Download the RA version of the file and place it on the SD card
  • Reboot into recovery
  • Wipe data/Factory reset
  • Wipe Dalvik
  • Install the zip

If you're not rooted, download the "original version" from the source link and follow the above instructions for the A100.

As always, if you have any questions, hit up the appropriate thread on XDA.

Good luck!

Thanks, Matthew!
