Although it wasn't among the select few HTC devices confirmed to be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich, we have reasons to believe that T-Mobile's myTouch 4G will indeed be receiving the update in early 2012, according to an HTC customer support representative. Here's the original message:

First I want to thank you for the amazing job you've done building and maintaining my phone.  It's my favorite phone I've ever owned by far.  I'm incredibly excited for android 4.0 (Ice cream sandwich) and am really hoping for the update to come to the T-mobile mytouch 4g.  I absolutely love the phone and don't want to replace it with another.  I'm emailing to request that the T-mobile mytouch 4g be put on the forefront of update candidates.  Thank you again.

And HTC's response (we redacted the names of the parties involved):

"Thanks for your interest in the update to Ice Cream Sandwich for your device. At this time the only information we can provide is that we have committed to bring Android Ice Cream Sandwich build to your device in early in 2012. We will be posting more details as soon as they are available on our forums and other web sites like Facebook.

Now, there's a good chance that this rep is simply misinformed - as we know, HTC has not committed to brining Ice Cream Sandwich to the myTouch 4G, this is the first we're hearing of it. But if it does turn out to be true, then myTouch 4G owners are in for a sweet surprise, and owners of other last-gen devices may just have reason to hope for ICS after all.

Update: A follow-up by the CSR seems to indicate that she was confused after all (what a surprise)... aaaand now we're back to zero.

Thanks, Justin!
