Following up on the success of our 404 design and banner design contests, we've decided to run another creative giveaway, graciously sponsored by NVIDIA and Philips. Personally, I think the creative contests are always the best - we get beautiful graphic assets and designs, and our talented readers get a platform on which to showcase their skills and creative abilities. Besides all that, looking through the entries is always a good time.

The Contest

This time around, we're looking for static wallpapers. Specifically, we're looking for well-designed, versatile wallpapers that are clearly related to Android Police - think of it as designing the official AP wallpaper.

Your entries should be creative, visually appealing, eye-catching, and formatted to various screen resolutions (which are listed below). We want to see the most creative designs our readers can come up with, so the design parameters are wide open.

General Guidelines

Here are a few tips on how to ensure your entry is viable:

  • Upload your entries to imgur.com and post a link (or links) here in the comments. Be sure to include your real email address in the comment form so we can contact you. Please also be sure to save your original file for us (preferably in PSD format).
  • You can submit as many entries as you like (within reason).
  • Try to avoid using existing AP art work, as it is always subject to change. Give us a timeless design.
  • You may or may not include copy (including our official slogan - Looking after all things Android), that's up to you.
  • You may enter with only one wallpaper resolution below. Keep in mind, however, that we'd love it if you submitted more sizes. Try to avoid uploading ALL the sizes at once however, until you've gotten some positive comment feedback.
  • On that note, the winner of the contest must submit their design in ALL the specified formats, together with their PSD counterparts, before the prize is shipped.
  • You may only include graphics (including photos, clip art, etc.) that you have created entirely by yourself, or those which fall under a Creative Commons License. Any entry containing copyrighted work(s) or apparent derivatives thereof will be disqualified. We have to stress this point, as we absolutely can't use works with copyrighted material.
  • Stay away from designs that are focused around a single photographic image. We want unique designs, not high-res photos.
  • If you would like to use the same font we use in the AP logo, you can find it here: XSCALE.

Suggested Resolutions

As mentioned above, the winner of the contest will be required to provide assets in all of the formats listed below (and corresponding PSD files), but only one of these is necessary for entry. This may be a rather long list, but including these formats will ensure that many people can grace their devices with your gorgeous design when the contest is over.

Each phone/tablet resolution listed below should accommodate swiping between screens. If you can't decide which resolution to start with, use 960x800 - that's the scrollable version of 480x800.

Phones

Tablets

Desktops

  • 1440x1280
  • 960x800
  • 1920x1408
  • 1280x1024
  • 1680x1050
  • 1920x1080

The Prizes

This time, we have two prizes up for grabs.

Sony Tablet S

First is a brand new Sony Tablet S. The S is a formidable, unique entry into the bevvy of Honeycomb and NVIDIA powered tablets out there, bringing a visually intriguing, lightweight form factor, all the Tegra 2 power you've come to love, and even IR remote capabilities to the table (or tablet - take your pick). Here's a more complete look at what the Tablet S has in store under its slender frame:

  • Android 3.1 Honeycomb
  • NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-Core Processor at 1GHz
  • 9.4" display with TruBlack technology (1280x800 resolution)
  • 16GB internal storage
  • Bluetooth Capability
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity
  • 1GB RAM
  • 5MP Rear Camera and .3MP Front Shooter

Philips Fidelio AS851

Our second place winner will receive the Philips Fidelio AS851 stereo dock, which we recently reviewed. The Fidelio is, by all accounts, a powerful audio docking option for your Android handset and provides great sound quality and responsiveness. The dock will accommodate a wide array of Android devices, thanks to its swivel/sliding action. Note: You will receive our review unit, so it won't be brand new.

Now that everyone is excited, we'll get to the official rules.

The Terms

This contest is now over. We have selected the winners and 25 runners-up - check them out in all their glory here.

This contest begins immediately and will run through next Sunday, November 13th 11:59 p.m., at which point deliberations will begin as to the best design. When winners are chosen, we will notify them via email.

Entry to the contest is open to anyone, but note that we will only ship the prizes to the countries listed in the terms below.

You can submit as many entries as you want, but keep this amount reasonable and refine your submissions before publicizing them.

This contest is for static wallpapers, not live ones. However, if you do submit a mind blowing live wallpaper, we won't disqualify it.

Please Note: All entries become property of Android Police upon submission.
