Napster is back, again. The original service peaked and plummeted decades ago, but the name has staying power. It's so recognizable that Rhapsody is changing its name to Napster in an attempt to gain more subscribers.
Can Rhapsody just do that? Yes, it turns out. Read More
Dictionary.com is one of the most popular dictionary apps on Android, with the free version racking up between 10 and 50 million downloads on the Play Store. An updated version of the app has just been released which brings a fresh coat of paint and some welcome new features.
One of the more useful highlights of version 7.0 is the added support for the floating text selection toolbar introduced in Android Marshmallow. This allows users to quickly search for a definition through the app by highlighting a word and selecting the "Define" option from the popup menu. Other nifty features include the ability to explore locally trending words and a list of your favorite and most recent searches. Read More
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the third entry in the shoot-and-loot PC and console series, came to the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV earlier this year. Even with a significant delay, it's the most technically challenging game on the SHIELD and probably on Android as a whole. That said, it's not as good as the previous entry, Borderlands 2. The Pre-Sequel has a bit of a been there, done that feel to it: the story is a bit ham-fisted, the weapons and environments seem like retreads, and there are too many Space Australians. If you agree, you'll be happy to hear that Borderlands 2 is also coming, according to an announcement made at E3 today. Read More
OnePlus announced the OnePlus 3 earlier today with a number of important improvements over last year's model. One of the more exciting is the inclusion of fast charging, which OnePlus calls Dash Charge. However, the company notes that Dash Charge is dependent on special hardware in the adapter itself. We've checked with OP, and that means you'll have to use the included hardware if you want fast charging. Read More
Whether you're a phone junkie or just a history buff, a recent video by game reviews YouTube channel Lazy Game Reviews is, in my humble opinion, must-watch material. LGR takes us through the history of Motorola from its progenitors in 1921 up to its eventual split and acquisition by Google, then Lenovo. But the winding road from car radios to smartphones is filled with stories of Motorola's great successes (and a few failures more recently) over the past 90-plus years, and I came away with some new tidbits of knowledge in the process. Yep, you read that right. In a Late Night with Jimmy Fallon appearance a couple of days back, President Obama mentioned he no longer used his DISA/DOD-approved Blackberry, but a new Android smartphone instead. According to Ars Technica, that device is very likely a hardened Samsung Galaxy S4.
The S4 is currently the only device supported under DISA's DOD Mobility Classified Capability-Secret (DMCC-S) program. In 2014, a number of Samsung devices were the first to win approval from the National Security Agency under its National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) program—largely because of Samsung's KNOX security technology.
Space Hulk is not some Jason X-style reinterpretation of Marvel's not-so-jolly green giant, fun as that might be. Nope, it's a tabletop tactical RPG set in the vaunted Warhammer 40,000 setting. The setting, which features a bunch of strapping space marines stomping around a gigantic derelict spaceship, is kind of like Aliens, except you get to kill things instead of run away. The latest video game version of the Space Hulk setup was released in 2013, and today it's been made available on the SHIELD, SHIELD Tablet, and SHIELD Portable. Read More
In the event you didn't strap a VR viewer to your face to watch the OnePlus 3 announcement, all the details are now available. If you've been keeping up with the leaks, they seem to have been quite accurate. The OnePlus 3 has a whopping 6GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 820, and a slim aluminum design. Perhaps most interestingly, the $399 smartphone is available for purchase today on the OnePlus website without an invite. Read More
