Hands-On And Initial Thoughts On The 7-Inch Kindle Fire HD Versus The Nexus 7

I had a chance to spend some time with Amazon's new Kindle Fires today at the company's event in Los Angeles, so I'm going to share a few thoughts about Amazon's newest Android-based slates. Disclaimer: Yes, I only spent about an hour with this tablet today, but I'm going to give you a sense of where I think the Kindle Fire HD is headed, who it's targeted to, and whether or not you should be interested in buying it.

Archos 101 XS Review: Too Many Compromises In A Suddenly Competitive Budget Market

"Unique" is the name of the game with the Archos 101 XS. Just about every design decision goes against the status quo. Most tablets are made out of aluminum or plastic, but Archos went with stainless steel and a plastic rim. It's a tablet-laptop hybrid, but there's no hinge, everything is held together with a kickstand and some magnets. The included keyboard dock also doubles as a magnetic cover. At a time when some Android OEMs are accused found guilty of doing little more than firing up a photocopier, some out-of-the-box thinking is very much appreciated.

[Quick Review] FIXIE Tablet Stand By Incipio: An Elegant, Minimal, And Modern Stand For Your Mobile Device

As a tech writer, I have lots of gadgets. Smartphones, tablets, and all sorts of other fun stuff. Because of this, new accessories aren't something that I'm often super-impressed with. Every once in a while, though, a new product lands in my hands that really is more than I expected. Thus is the case with the FIXIE tablet stand from Incipio ($40).

I know what you're thinking: "wait, you were impressed with...

[Review] The Tablet Claw Is A Horrible Attempt At An Accessory That Doesn't Need To Exist

It's very difficult to review something like the Tablet Claw. For starters, my first instinct is to make the entire thing one big Inspector Gadget joke. Then there's the fact that I have no idea why anyone would need this. The Tablet Claw is a device that you slide your tablet into, and a little plastic piece that kind of looks like the tab you open soda cans with (called a "ringlet", apparently) folds out and gives you a way to grip your tablet.

Chameleon Launcher Beta [P]Review: An Evolving Concept In A Changing Tablet World

We've been talking about Chameleon Launcher for a few months now, and despite getting off to a bit of a rocky start, the beta is now officially available for some testers and Kickstarter backers. I've spent the last several days playing with the launcher on a couple different tablets, and, despite the fact that it's still in beta, have been generally impressed.

For the unaware, Chameleon is a new type of launcher designed specifically for Android 3.0+ tablets.

[Weekend Poll] What Is Your Preferred Tablet Screen Size?

This is the latest in our Weekend Poll series. For last week's, see In A Perfect World, Who Would Manufacture The Next Nexus Phone?

Back in November - in the early days of true Android tablets - we ran a poll to see what you considered the ideal tablet screen size. The majority (47%) of you said roughly 10"; at the time, that was largely all there was to choose from, so an understandable result.

Nexus 7 8GB Finally In Stock On The Play Store, Delivered In 3-5 Days

Ever since the Nexus 7 was first announced, it has been in "ships soon" status on the Play Store. No matter how many times you F5'd it, nothing changed (don't lie - you know you did it). Then, a few days ago Google confirmed that pre-ordered N7s had started shipping. Heck, you could even walk in to some retailers and buy one. But if you're one of those Play Store purists (do those really exist?) the time has come: the 8GB Nexus 7 is now available directly from El Goog itself.

Evernote For Android Updated To Version 4.1, Brings All New Tablet UI And Enhanced Functionality

I love Evernote. In fact, I don't go a single day without using it. And today, I love it even more. The Evernote Team just pushed an update to the Android app that makes it even more useful on tablets by introducing an all-new user interface.

Here's what I love about it: the old interface was good. It was functional and intuitive, I had no complaints. But the new interface is better and more intuitive.
