There are plenty of companies that are working on building you tablets and phones, but only one Android OEM is concerned with "localizing" your dog – Archos. But it's not just your dog that Archos wants to make smarter with a little dash of technology. The device maker has announced an array of connected home devices that will be officially detailed at the upcoming CES event in Las Vegas. There are even going to be some smart watches in the mix, because why not?

With Christmas right around the corner, it's the time of year when many people are scrambling around trying to find the "perfect" gift for their loved ones. Picking the right thing for "the person who has everything" can be quite the task – that's why we decided to offer up our favorite products for the year in a massive this-is-the-stuff-we-use-and-love-and-think-you-or-your-loved-ones-will-too (abbreviated as TitSWUaLaTYoYLOWT for short) list.

Each person from the AP team picked out a handful of stuff (or more, possibly several handfuls), that they either can't live without or feel like would make the perfect gift this holiday season.

The interesting Notion Ink Adam gained quite a lot of notoriety (if not actual fans) in its initial version. The company's second tablet has been anticipated for almost two full years, and it looks like it's finally on sale. But for the moment you'll only be able to get your hands on it in India: the price is in Rupees, and the order page is only accepting Indian addresses. If you've got room in Link's wallet, the Wi-Fi version is RS16,499 (about $265), and the 3G version is RS18,999 ($305).

When Google announced the next-generation Nexus 7 back in July, the Android enthusiast community rejoiced at the fact that the LTE model, while working on AT&T and T-Mobile as expected, also worked on Verizon Wireless. This was an enormous step forward in the mobile universe because Verizon has the largest network in the United States and, at the time of release, had more LTE coverage than AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint combined.

The Nexus 10 might be a year old, but it's still a formidable tablet with an amazing screen. Google is still selling the 32GB Nexus 10 for $499, which seems a bit steep. Tech Woot is offering the same device as a refurbished unit for a mere $279.

Asus has been in the business of making Android tablets for as long as it has been a viable business. The company has certainly won praise for its efforts on Google's Nexus tablets, but Asus still makes its own separate tablets in the Transformer line. The newest entrant in that group is the Transformer Pad TF701T. It's not the catchiest name ever slapped on a wedge of metal and glass, but it's not the name that we're interested in – it's the experience.

Dell isn't giving up on its tablet ambitions quite yet. The company has announced a slew of new devices today, two of which are Android slates. The Venue 7 and 8 are entry-level Android tablets running on Intel Atom chips, and you'll be able to buy them later this month for a competitive price.

I like tablets, and I love tablet apps. Don’t take that the wrong way - I love my Nexus 4, and I use it constantly, but there’s something different about tablets. A large, beautiful screen filled by an app that really shows off the functionality that comes with Android's design language is a great experience. Make that tablet super portable, fast, and priced right, and you’ve got my heart.

Okay, maybe that’s not all it takes for a tablet to win my heart.

Gone is the "Steve McQueen" racing-glove inspired backing. Side bezels are slimmer, speakers better, pixels denser. The new Nexus 7 bears little resemblance to its older brother, other than its svelte form factor and exactingly curved and angled edges, but that may be a good thing.
