Earlier this month, when we recapped all the rumor and leak posts we had published leading up to Google I/O, hands-free functionality called Android Eyes-Free (codenamed KITT) was marked as "partially live." For those in need of a refresher, our post outlined in-car functionality that would carry a stripped-down interface, notifications read aloud by Google, and a new hand-waving gesture used to wake the device.
While the hands-free hotword functionality has already debuted, the dedicated in-car interface, void of any visual chrome, has yet to be revealed (or even really hinted at) by Google. Read More
An image of what looked to be a Shield-like controller at the FCC last month had rumors swirling about a successor to NVIDIA's hybrid touchscreen-gamepad system. Well, it looks like that may have only been part of the picture because @evleaks has just dropped a shot of what is claimed to be the Shield tablet. Take a look.
This device is remarkably similar to NVIDIA's Tegra Note reference hardware in regard to design language, so we're clearly looking at something they've created. Read More
It's still nigh on impossible to get your hands on a OnePlus One, even more than a month after it was "released." Sure, some units have been trickling out via the invite system, but interested customers are beginning to get steamed. A new tidbit dropped by @evleaks yesterday claimed the OnePlus "Two" was already in the works, and it was codenamed Lettuce. The One Plus One, by the way, was Bacon. Read More
Given that Sony chose IFA last year as its debut venue for the Xperia Z1 smartphone, then MWC for the Z2, it would make sense that a new device is well underway for this year's IFA, which will be happening just two short months from now. Perhaps it's just Sony's rapid iteration cycle, but the Z3 looks largely similar to the Z2, at least from the pictures we have of it so far in this alleged leak, which has a model number of L55t to the Z2's L50t, strongly suggesting its successor status. Though we just finished up our rumor recap for pre-I/O leaks and rumors, we've received information regarding Google's plans for the Play Store suggesting that Google may be building cross-device app restoration into the store's Android app.
Information is sparse so far, but from what's available to us, it appears that Google may be working on new functionality to restore apps and "data" to a new device, based on the data accrued on another device. Read More
Fire up the rumor mill, because with the annual IFA trade show just two months away, the leaks are already starting to roll in. Today's comes from Sammobile in the form of two new images relating to Samsung's upcoming Gear VR virtual reality headset.
The first image would seem to confirm the Gear VR branding (it appears to be a screenshot from a setup app), while the second may be a first-use tutorial. Read More
In the run-up to I/O (starting all the way back in March), we posted a relatively large number of leaks and rumors based on information that was provided to us about some of Google's plans. It's easy to lose track of all the rumors, and just how accurate they turned out (or didn't turn out) to be, so we thought it would be helpful to do a quick recap of the pre-I/O rumors now that the dust has settled. The image you're seeing below popped up on Reddit this morning, and likely various tip boxes of numerous websites, offering a glimpse of what appears to be impending Google Voice and Hangouts integration - the holy grail we've all been seeking since the very announcement of Hangouts as a thing.
Exciting, right? Well, curb your enthusiasm, because there's really not much to see here, in all likelihood. We've seen this migration message inside the Hangouts APK since April, and the graphic assets for this prompt have probably been in there for a while, too. Read More
A while ago, we posted about explorations Google was undertaking in revamping Android's home screen. Part of this was a new notification shade that looked similar to Google Now.
Since then, we've seen new materials that show something a bit closer to what the notification shade and Quick Settings will resemble in Android's L release. The images we'll discuss in this post are based on more recent information, but as with any unreleased software, anything can change - particularly design. Read More
There have been rumors recently that LG's G Watch might be the focus of Google I/O's Android Wear discussion, with the nascent device possibly being handed out to attendees. Whether Moto's watch, the Moto 360, would make an appearance has remained unclear. Until today though, those were the only two Android Wear devices even rumored for I/O cameos.
Cnet has reported, however, that Samsung will (according to sources) be throwing its hat into the Android Wear ring at I/O as well, debuting an Android Wear smartwatch of its own. Read More
