[Updated] Rumor Analysis: Is A New Galaxy Nexus With A TI OMAP4470 CPU Really In The Works?

A rumor has begun circulating over the past week about the possible existence of an upgraded version of the just-released Galaxy Nexus. At CES, ASUS announced the TF700T, a beefier version of the Transformer Prime (well before the first Transformer Prime has even been released in many countries), leaving a lot of people who bought the first iteration a bit upset. Are Google and Samsung following ASUS's lead and planning on releasing an incremental upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus so soon?

[Rumor] Samsung May Not Announce Galaxy S III At Mobile World Congress

Multiple sources - including The Verge and BestBoyZ - are reporting that Samsung will not be announcing the Galaxy S III at this year's Mobile World Congress. This goes against what many have speculated, as its predecessor, the Galaxy S II, was announced at last year's MWC.

Apparently, Samsung is planning to announce the device at a special event some time "before summer," in order to avoid the long delay between releases internationally and in the US. They'll still have some "interesting stuff" to announce, but if you're holding out for a new Samsung superphone in Barcelona this year, you may be disappointed.

Update: This was just an unsubstantiated rumor according to a Samsung spokesman: "We haven't considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM)" - Reuters.

It's no secret that RIM (Research in Motion) has seen better days; in fact, its stock dropped a whopping 75 percent last year alone. Considering the downward spiral, the company's CEOs are looking for a way out, be it a sale or licensing its Blackberry software.

The latest word on the street is that RIM has a potential buyer: Samsung. According to BGR, RIM is "going hard after Samsung," but Sammy isn't biting just yet because the price is too [damn] high.

[Updated] First Alleged Sprint LTE Speed Tests Surface - Yeah, It's Pretty Fast (At Least For Now)

As we already know, Sprint is going to roll out its next generation 4G LTE network in four U.S. cities somewhere around mid-2012, and it would only make sense that they already have some of the towers undergoing testing. The first of such alleged tests surfaced online today:

While I can't promise you it's 100% legitimate, here's my analysis:

The device used is more than likely a dedicated LTE hotspot and not a handset (like the LTE Galaxy Nexus). If you remember, such was the case with Verizon's LTE network, and it's easy to understand why - building a complicated phone with a new chip and having it available for testers this early would be a lot harder than a dedicated device with only one job - being a hotspot.

[Rumor] Samsung To Unveil An 11.6" 2560x1600px Tablet At Mobile World Congress In February 2012

Word from a "trusted source" at BGR is that Samsung is set to unveil a new tablet at MWC packing an 11.6" screen at 2560x1600. That's nearly twice as many pixels as 1080p in a dinky 11.6" package; thanks to a thinner bezel, said package is only slightly larger than the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Unsurprisingly, other specs are bumped up a notch as well, with the tablet reportedly equipped with a 2GHz dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU. Other details are light, although the source says the tablet will pack Android Beam, has a wireless docking mode to interface with HDTVs, and most importantly, it will be running Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).

Ready to add another rumor to the pile surrounding the US Galaxy Nexus release date? No? I don't blame you. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do to stop this whirlwind of release date madness.

We've been hearing December 9th as the final release date for the Galaxy Nexus on Big Red for several days now; heck, an orgy of proof showed up yesterday that all but confirmed it - or so we thought. Now we're hearing that 12/9 isn't the day after all. No one is sure what's actually going on, but we can say that we're not alone - a slew of other sites are hearing the same thing.

Mysterious Verizon Holiday Ad Appears Across The Web, Shows Galaxy Nexus For $199.99

Nobody is really sure what it means at the moment, but we definitely know the ad showing the Verizon Galaxy Nexus for $199.99 is real. As in, It's not fake since it's showing up on Android sites across the web (we've spotted it here at AP, at Phandroid, and DroidForums to name a few). These ads are run by NetShelter, which is a premium advertising network that deals directly with carriers and manufacturers and does not mess around - we know them all too well.

Clicking Learn More goes to this page that doesn't list the Galaxy Nexus, so either someone pressed the Launch button a bit too early or the ad was scheduled ahead of time and someone forgot to postpone it due to all the recent delays.

[Rumor] Is An Amazon Smartphone In The Works? Signs Point To 'Yes'

Even though the Kindle Fire has only been out for a couple of days, rumors are already circulating about what Amazon could be planning for next year - a foray into the smartphone world.

According to a research report put out this morning by a couple of Citi analysts, Amazon appears to be developing a smartphone in collaboration with Foxconn, though the actual device will most like be manufactured by the same company that produces the Kindle line. The suggested chip under the hood of this device is said to be a TI OMAP4, with a Qualcomm dual mode 6-series standalone baseband handling the radio work.

Shameless Speculation: What In The Heck Are T-Mobile And Google Going To Announce On Wednesday? We Have A Guess Or Two

It seems that invitees to Google's big not-yet-officially-about-Google-Music-event have just received a second invitation - to the after party. Oh, and Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes, Dirty South, R3hab, and Drake will all be in attendance - and so will we. We'll be watching the earlier event via livestream along with most everyone else (space is apparently very limited), but Android Police will present for the post-event-event Wednesday night, below. We're excited.

But as awesome as the event's headliners are, we're still more interested in what it is Google and T-Mobile are launching that warrants such a high-profile promotion.

Now, we don't have any inside information regarding what's going to be going down on Wednesday in Los Angeles, but I think I might have a pretty good idea - so, humor me for a minute.

Screen Shots Surface Showing What Could Be The Google Music Store – Expect Free Song Of The Day, Recommended Artists, And More

Lending credence to theories that Google's November 16th event may have something to do with the debut of the Google Music Store, a writer at TecnoDroidVe has discovered (what appears to be) a work-in-progress version of the store, accessing it from his HTC Inspire 4G. While it's unclear how exactly Ricardo found his way into the Music Store, the screenshots he was able to recover look very promising.

While the Music Store isn't fully functional (you can't purchase or download songs yet), there is evidence that it will be awesome. For starters, Google has evidently integrated a "Free Song Of The Day" feature, which, as the name implies, offers users a free song each day.
