[Update: Now Rolling OTA] Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.2) Now Available For AT&T's Sony Xperia TL

Ice Cream Sandwich may have been good enough for James Bond, but the Android die-hards who nabbed Sony's Xperia TL on AT&T want more. And by "more," we mean "an update to a newer version of Android." Fortunately, that's finally available.

Update: Looks like AT&T just started pushing the update over-the-air if you don't want to deal with flashing it manually. Head into Settings > About Phone > Software update to grab it.

The newest build available for the handset is v9.1.F.1.120, and brings Android 4.1.2 to the mix. The full changelog includes better Sony apps, an improved launcher and camera, and a more organized app tray.

Android 4.1.2 Making Its Way To Rogers' Sony Xperia T

AT&T started pushing Jelly Bean (4.1.2) to its variant of the Xperia T (the TL) earlier this month, but Rogers apparently wasn't far behind. The Canadian carrier just made the update available to its Xperia T, which should bring all the same goodies that the AT&T and International versions already have. Namely:

Updated, more intuitive versions of Sony Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies
Lets you view and access all your photos, videos and tunes in one place.

Increased options for personalization
A revamped home screen experience for handling widgets, apps and shortcuts… With up to 7 desktop panes, widgets that auto-resize and actionable notifications, you have complete flexibility to create the interface you want / need with a few simple touches!

Sony Beginning Jelly Bean Rollout For Xperia T And V Handsets This Week, TX Next Month

Sony is firing off Jelly Bean updates for a few handsets this week, starting with the Xperia T and V, with the TX to receive its Android 4.1 update in March. This conforms with the statement Sony issued previously about updates to these devices, back in December. Here's what Sony says is contained in the update:

Updated, more intuitive versions of Sony Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies

Sony Releases A Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) Alpha ROM For Unlocked Xperia T, Though It's In A Devs-Only State

Way back in December 2011, Sony began releasing 'alpha' developer ROMs for some of its phones being upgraded to Android 4.0. Then it released beta ROMs that did slightly more stuff. Now it's done the same with Android 4.1 for the Xperia T.

These ROMs are developer-facing in every sense of the word, though, and aren't intended as a way for power users to get early access to the next version of Android. Most things that consumers, you know, use, are turned off.

Google Mobile Services (GMS) apps are not included (for example, Gmail and Google Maps).

Modem is turned off and therefore the SIM card will not be recognised (this also means you can’t make any phone calls).

[Deal Alert] The Sony Xperia TL Is Just A Penny On Amazon Wireless (New Accounts And Upgrades)

If you head on over to Amazon Wireless this morning, you'll find the Xperia TL has had its price dropped to a mere penny on contract (new subscribers or upgrades).

The Xperia TL is Sony's current flagship smartphone, and packs a 4.6" 720p display, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, LTE, and a 13MP Exmor rear camera. At the low, low, price of "basically free," this is a pretty decent deal - $100 less than what you'd pay at an AT&T store. While I can't say I loved the re-styled international sibling of the TL, the Xperia TX, the TL is the James Bond phone.

Xperia T And TX Receiving OTA Update - Includes Wi-Fi Mirroring, Extended Standby, And HD Voice Support

The Xperia T and TX, the latter of which I quite recently reviewed, are slated to receive an over-the-air update globally in the next week* (*unless you're on AT&T, in which case the ETA is: haha, good luck), and it's packed with features. Features that do things. Here's the breakdown.

First, Wi-Fi Miracast display mirroring, which is actually a stock feature in Android 4.2. And in case you're wondering - no, this is not an update to Android 4.2, you're still stuck in Ice Cream Sandwich-land.

Next comes an "extended standby mode," which is basically similar to the manner in which HTC Sense 4 phones go into a "deep sleep" overnight, only receiving SMS/MMS messages and phone calls, while turning off mobile data and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Xperia TX Review: Just Another Pretty Sony Phone That Isn't Very Good

If you're not much a classic car nut, and you were to walk up to a stylish little 1968 Opel GT, like this one, you'd probably think "Wow, is that... Italian? It must be fast (for its age)."

Of course, you would be wrong. The Opel GT is, in fact, based on the rather pedestrian Opel Kadett - seen here. The GT was not particularly quick, expensive, or really even that rare. In fact, Opel sold over 100,000 of them. And why? Because they were small and pretty and, even in the US, a lot cheaper than a Corvette.

Sony Xperia TL And LG Optimus G Are Now Available From AT&T For $99 And $199 Respectively

It's a big day for AT&T devices! For starters, the headlining LG phone that's managed to grab our attention as the best not-a-Nexus device the company has put out in recent memory. The LG Optimus G goes on sale today on the nation's #2 carrier for $199 with a two-year contract. Of course, for $100 more you can pick up a Nexus 4 from the Play Store, though you'll lack LTE. It really depends on how much you value stock Android over an extra 4G radio. Conundrum, eh?

Also launching today is the James Bond phone: the Sony Xperia TL.

At the beginning of October, AT&T announced the Xperia TL would be available "in the coming weeks." If you've been waiting with bated breath to get your hands on the James Bond phone, November 2 looks like the day to mark on the calendar.
