Samsung Releases Free Source Code For Very Expensive Galaxy NX Camera

Another Android device is on the way to release, and that means it's time for the kernel source to be posted online. Samsung has been so kind as to drop the code for two variants of the Galaxy NX camera on us – the standard international, and a version for South East Asia.

The Jelly Bean-based packages are a hefty 1.1GB for each device, and Samsung's servers are pretty sluggish. Any developers that want to dig around in the code from this bizarre product should get that download started now.

AT&T Confirms It Will Offer One-Time Replacement For A Water-Damaged Galaxy S4 Active

When a phone is advertised as "water-resistant" you have to wonder just how resistant it actually is. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active on AT&T, the answer is apparently "not very." Despite AT&T heavily advertising the device as “whatever-proof” and great for taking underwater videos, some owners have been complaining of damage to the device after an encounter with water.

The Active is supposedly IP67 certified, which means it should hold up to water at a depth of one meter for 30 minutes.

Samsung Schedules Unpacked Episode 2 Event For September 4th, Teases New Galaxy Note Hardware

It was only a matter of time. Samsung just sent out invitations to the their latest Unpacked press event, this time labeled "Episode 2." It's scheduled for 1PM EST on September 4th, just under one month from today, before the annual IFA show in Berlin. Android newshounds will recall that the original Galaxy Note got its debut at the same venue back in 2011.

There's little doubt that new Note hardware will be the focus of this event: stylized text reading "NOTE THE DATE" is emblazoned on the invite.

Android 4.2.2 Updates Rolling Out To Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE (GT-N5120) And Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 3G (GT-P3100)

Samsung seems to be on a bit of an update spree lately, trying to get its devices up to speed on Android 4.2. This time it's the LTE Galaxy Note 8.0 and the somewhat older Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with 3G. Attacking the system update button like an enraged jungle cat won't do any good, folks. These updates are rolling out in stages.

CyanogenMod Adds Support For 11 More Devices, Including The Nook HD And HD+, DROID RAZR M And HD, And Verizon Note 10.1

The folks on the CyanogenMod team are always adding new devices to their ever-increasing list, and over the last few days they've added no less than eleven more. According to a pair of Google+ posts, there are new officially-supported phones and tablets including two Barnes & Noble Nooks, a ton of Motorola devices, and a few Samsungs thrown in for good measure. Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (SCH-i435) Spotted With Verizon Branding

For the couple of years, Samsung's cheaper, smaller handsets have been sold mostly on America's small regional carriers. It looks like Verizon is bucking that trend by bringing the Galaxy S4 Mini, a phone that's related to is big brother in name only, to US consumers. Engadget was tipped with some photos and screenshots of the phone "in the wild," with a pretty convincing set of Verizon logos and a boot-up sequence.

Samsung Posts Android 4.3 Kernel Source For Google Play Edition Galaxy S4

HTC pushed the Android 4.3 kernel and framework code earlier today, and the update just started showing up for both Google Play Edition devices. Now Samsung is getting in on the whole open source thing. Yes, it has posted the new kernel source files for its Google Play Edition phone.

Android 4.3 Update Rolling Out To Google Play Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 And HTC One

We knew it wouldn't be long, and sure enough, the Android 4.3 update has started hitting Google Play Edition devices. Both the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 from Google Play are currently receiving update notifications. If you're lucky enough to have one of these devices, commence mashing the update button at your leisure.

The updates for both devices are developed by the OEMs, but there are no modifications to the UI and no carrier testing to get in the way.
