Samsung Flow is not a new app, but the basic gist is that you can use your Galaxy phone's fingerprint scanner to unlock your Tab Pro S Windows 10 device. It also allows you to do other things like see and interact with your phone's notifications on the desktop and transfer content and activity between the two (where supported). Thus far, this has been limited to a single tablet, but Samsung is apparently planning to expand this to all Windows 10 devices soon. Read More
Carriers in the US are finally starting to roll the official Android 7.0 Nougat update out to Samsung's flagship duo, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Yesterday, folks on T-Mobile began to see the OTAs hit their phones, but now, AT&T device owners are getting them as well. And yes, it's still 7.0 Nougat and not 7.1. Read More
In an attempt to keep everyone on their toes for MWC, the Samsung Exynos Twitter account put out a teaser image hinting at a new SoC. Labeled as "coming soon," the heavy emphasis on the 9 implies that this is a new series of Samsung's in-house chipset. Read More
Cameras and displays are areas in which Samsung Mobile traditionally excels; quick updates aren't one of them. However, with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge's Galaxy Beta Program, the South Korean company proved that it was willing to change that. Now, following a global rollout of a similar caliber, T-Mobile is rolling the official Android 7.0 Nougat update out to Galaxy S7 edge devices that were already running Nougat beta software. Given that the S7 edge is receiving it, it's fair to assume that the S7 also is, or at the very least, will be shortly. Read More
One month ago, an arrest warrant was issued for Lee Jae-yong, the de facto chairman of the entire Samsung conglomerate. The warrant later was nullified when challenged in court by Samsung, but a new warrant issued today has stuck: Mr. Lee was arrested in Seoul and charged with bribery. The entire scandal revolves around an ongoing political crisis involving the country's president. Lee is accused of paying bribes to organizations run by President Park's personal advisor, Choi Soon-sil, in exchange for political favors. But the details of the larger scandal are rather tedious, so I'll leave the BBC's excellent summary for you to peruse here. Read More
The time for new phones is coming, but that doesn't mean that yester year's flagship devices are any less good than they were at release. One of the great things about new hardware is that the older stuff sees some great price cuts. Such is the case with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Duos (dual-SIM version). The 32GB in black, silver, or gold is $439.99 over on eBay, a savings of $210. Read More
LineageOS is still a relative newcomer to the Android world, but since it's descended from the legendary CyanogenMod, builds for various devices are coming thick and fast.
In this round, there are six new devices receiving LineageOS 14.1 (based on Android 7.1 Nougat) builds: two HTCs, two Samsungs, an LG, and a ZTE. The HTC phones are both variants, Verizon and GSM, of the original HTC One, the M7. Read More
Cracking the screen glass is the easiest way to damage a modern smartphone, if only because there's just so much of it. Verizon isn't the only company making offers for a protection plan, giving customers a little peace of mind for reduced-price phone repairs in exchange for a few bucks a month. But the newest version of the plan does have an interesting bonus: they're offering same-day screen replacement for some of the carrier's most high-profile devices. Verizon is hoping that people will be willing to shell out some extra dough for the chance to fix up their screens without having to deal with shipping. Read More
The Galaxy S8 is almost around the corner, but that doesn't mean the S7 and S7 Edge are all of a sudden bad and unusable phones. They still have an excellent display, a fast processor, enough RAM for the most demanding power-users out there, a fantastic camera, water-resistance, and plenty more to offer. But in a couple of months, they will be last year's news and it seems that Samsung wants to clear some stock now before that happens.
So the company is offering a few 256GB EVO+ MicroSD card with the purchase of an S7 or S7 Edge between February 8 and 14, for US residents aged 18 years and above. Read More
