Samsung Replaces Its Aging Smart View App With A New Version And A New Listing

Remember Samsung's Smart View app? It's OK if you don't - it's basically a mix of a remote control and some Chromecast-style functionality, exclusively for use with both Samsung phones/tablets and Samsung smart televisions. It's the kind of cross-platform"synergy" that gets a lot of play in press releases and on-stage product reveals, but is rarely used by actual customers. The app listing in the Play Store is plagued with negative reviews complaining of frequent bugs and infrequent updates.

easyHome Turns Your Samsung Device's Physical Home Button Into A Capacitive One

Strange as it sounds, using the physical home button on Samsung phones can be a lot of work. Tapping a capacitive or on-screen button is faster and doesn't break up the experience as much. Well, no more. There's a new app for most 2014 and 2015 Samsung devices that turns the physical button into a capacitive one, and it works surprisingly well.

Pictures Of Samsung's 18.4" Galaxy View Tablet Leak And Oh God It Has A Carrying Handle

SamMobile has published some very press-quality photos of Samsung's alleged upcoming 18.4" tablet today, and while confirming the hugeness of the thing, it looks like we can now confidently say the Galaxy View does indeed run Android. It also has a big-ass handle because portability or something. Look at that thing. It's positively meaty.

Handle aside, the [I assume removable] plastic attachment thingamajig also serves as an adjustable stand for the mega-tablet, allowing it to be propped up in various positions for your tablet-computing pleasure. We're also seeing what looks like a microUSB port, a headphone jack, and, yes this is going to hurt, a proprietary charging port.

Samsung Pay App Arrives In The Play Store For The Four Already Compatible Devices

Since launch, users have been able to download the Samsung Pay app from Samsung's own dedicated app store. But since enough people aren't aware that place exists, the app inevitably must make it to Google Play as well. And here it is.

Play Store availability doesn't open the app to any more devices than before. Samsung Pay remains a Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, and Note 5 exclusive.

Verizon Pushes Out Samsung Pay-Enabling OTA With Stagefright Patches To Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, And Note 5—Samsung Details First Monthly Security Update

Samsung Pay is an interesting approach to this whole mobile payments thing. You don't have to wait on retailers to roll out support. Sure, you can use NFC in stores that are hip enough for such shenanigans, or you can use magnetic secure transmission (MST) to pay at terminals that would otherwise only accept debit and credit cards.

Samsung Pay launched last month, but the feature wasn't actually usable until carriers enabled support. And they did, except for Verizon Wireless. Well, now the hold out is pushing out updates to the four Samsung devices that have the hardware necessary to use MST: the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and Note 5.

[Deal Alert] Unlocked 32GB Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ (G928G) Down To $600 On eBay

If the Galaxy Note 5 is essentially a larger Galaxy S6 with a stylus, the Edge+ is a larger version of the S6 Edge. You want a big phone with those fancy sides, and Samsung understands. The company hardly shies from the chance to produce another model that you might buy.

Samsung's Game Tuner App (For S6, S6e, S6e+, Note 5) Is An Awesome Way To Scale Any Game's Resolution And FPS

A truly useful piece of software? From Samsung? Color me surprised, too, but the company's new Game Tuner app is nothing short of incredibly handy for mobile gamers. As you may well know, playing visually-intensive games on your smartphone can demolish the battery fairly quickly. While most such games render at 1080p even on 2K displays like Samsung's, such resolutions can be big draws on both your remaining juice and your device's processor, causing throttling (and thus slowdowns) and excessive power drain. Samsung's new app lets you have a say in just how graphically hungry those games will be, allowing you to adjust maximum frame rate and resolution scaling.

[Deal Alert] Catch The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (n920i) Unlocked On eBay For $570

The Note 5 is like the Note 4, but newer. Actually, while that introduction would generally be true, this year's model received the drastic redesign Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S6. Bye bye plastic and microSD card slot, hello glass and... no microSD card slot.
