[Updated] Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Keyboard Dock Review [+Video]

Intro

Update 8/9/11: Cameron took the keyboard out for a spin after the TouchWiz UX update and posted his impressions here. In short, it fixes some bugs, but most of the shortcomings remain in my opinion, and my verdict doesn't change.

Some people may never end up updating to TouchWiz UX, so I'm leaving the review below intact.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is currently my favorite Android tablet, so I was excited to see how some of its accessories, like the keyboard dock in this review, pan out.

Skype For Android Updated To v2.1 With Official Video Support For 17 More Devices (Including EVO 3D/4G, Thunderbolt, SGS1/2), And Unofficial Support For Any 2.2+ Device

Skysoft... errr, I mean Skype updated its previously measly Android device support from 5 devices to more than 20 today with the introduction of version 2.1 of its Android app. There are no new features outside of expanded device support, which was badly needed in order for the app to climb out of the sea of 1-star reviews (although stability and quality improvements would have made today's release even sweeter).

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 3G Available For Pre-Order On Amazon UK For £605.34, Launches On August 12th

Unveiled at CTIA earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 was slated for a “summer” launch in the US. However, if the Amazon UK pre-order page is the real deal it looks like our English cousins will be the first to get their hands on this device when it launches on August 12th in the UK (the original “in stock date” was reported as August 11th by Engadget, however this appears to have changed).

Leaked Verizon 2011 Roadmap Reveals Launch Dates For A Slew Of Android Devices, Including Bionic, Stratosphere, Vigor, Revolution 2, And XOOM 4G Upgrade

Get ready, Verizon customers. IGN just leaked Verizon's alleged 2011 roadmap, and, unsurprisingly, it features Android quite heavily. While there aren't too many details on any of the devices outside of what we already know, it will give you a good general idea of what to expect from Verizon this year:

  • Samsung Stratosphere: Previously rumored as Verizon's version of the Samsung Galaxy S2, the Stratosphere is listed as a "4G Smartphone w/Android 2.3." While it isn't exactly confirmation, there is a chance that this rumor was spot-on.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 TouchWiz UX Update Rolling Out On August 5th

Last week we told you that Samsung would be holding an event in NYC on August 3rd (today) to unveil the TouchWiz UX update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi. That event has come and gone, and while attendees are getting their Tab's updated live, the rest of the country will have to wait until August 5th to see the update. Of course, if you live in NYC, you can swing by The Shops at Columbus Circle between 1:00PM to 6:00PM and get your Tab updated immediately.

Rumor: Sprint Getting The Galaxy S II In September, To Be Called The Epic Touch 4G

Well, the Galaxy S II rumors are really starting to heat up stateside. Earlier today, BGR let loose a tip that Sprint may be getting its own Galaxy S II-based handset as early as next month (September), and that it will be dubbed the 'Epic Touch 4G.' This obviously implies that the device will not share the physical QWERTY keyboard of its etymological ancestor, the Epic 4G.

The phone will also feature Sprint's WiMAX 4G - which raises another big question: just how should Sprint subscribers reconcile the carrier's planned adoption of LTE with yet another WiMAX handset on the way?

Google I/O Limited Edition Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Receives OTA Update (KG4) Adding Support For Google Videos/Movies, Locks Bootloader

My favorite Android tablet, the I/O limited edition Galaxy Tab 10.1, received a small update today with version number KG4 (full version: HMJ37.UEKG4 P7510UEKG4). The only new feature the update seems to bring is the Videos/Movies app from Google, which is otherwise not available from the Android Market. Disappointingly, I don't see a new Movies tab in the Market, so literally only the Videos app was added and nothing else.

Samsung Galaxy S II With AT&T Radios And NFC Hits The FCC... Wait, What?

Normally, we don't post FCC filings, but this one caught our attention. It appears that a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II with NFC just hit the FCC sporting AT&T radios. But wait, this is where it starts to get interesting. Back in March, another variant with AT&T bands hit the FCC. Curious, yes?

The rabbit hole gets deeper: earlier this week, we saw photos of a version of the GSII sporting a keyboard that is rumored to be heading to AT&T, yet today's filing shows identical dimensions to the European variant of the GSII, suggesting that there is no keyboard.

With The Droid Bionic Delayed Until September, Will You Still Buy It Or Wait For Something Better? [Poll]

Ah, the Droid Bionic. We've kicked back and watched this outrageously anticipated device go on one heck of a rollercoaster ride over the past six months or so, and yesterday we finally got word that the LTE beast would be hitting the street sometime in September. This new information brought on a slew of mixed feelings from our readers: some happy, some enraged, and some just downright disappointed.

With superphones like the Samsung Galaxy S II and the next Nexus phone coming out before the end of year, would you put your money on the table for this phone, or is Motorola late to the game again?
