This is the latest in our Weekend Poll series. For last week's, see Now That The First Quad-Core Tablet Has Landed, Would You Still Buy A Dual-Core Tablet?

Inspired by the (sort of) pending release of the Galaxy Nexus (and the hilarious VZSucks coupon being offered for one at Negri Electronics), I'm curious: would you ever switch carriers for a phone? Have you before? Or does the phone come second to the network?

With a phone as highly anticipated as the Galaxy Nexus, it's understandable that people are (very, very) frustrated with the many rumored release dates passing with nothing to show and no official word, especially when stock of the phone is sitting in store rooms at retailers around the countries. Worse, many theories are that it's basically motivated by greed on the part of Verizon. No surprise, then, that even retailers are hopping on board the Verizon-sucks bandwagon:

After lifting an injunction against the sale of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 last month, Australia's High Court ruled that it would not hear Apple's application for special leave to ban the Tab once again, meaning would-be 10.1 owners in Australia have only to wait a matter of days before they can get their hands on Sammy's super sleek tablet.

Following the ruling, Samsung Australia announced that the 10.1 will be available "in time for the Christmas shopping period." The manufacturer also divulged that a 16GB WiFi-only model will be available for $579, and a 16GB 3G/WiFi version will cost a cool $729 AUD.

Word from a "trusted source" at BGR is that Samsung is set to unveil a new tablet at MWC packing an 11.6" screen at 2560x1600. That's nearly twice as many pixels as 1080p in a dinky 11.6" package; thanks to a thinner bezel, said package is only slightly larger than the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Unsurprisingly, other specs are bumped up a notch as well, with the tablet reportedly equipped with a 2GHz dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU.

The largest member of Samsung's Galaxy Player family, the Galaxy Player 5.0, is getting a hot discount from Amazon right now, coming in at a cool $209.99, $60.00 less than its normal list price. If you're not already convinced that this is a great deal, check out the chart below. The 5.0 is at Amazon's lowest price to date.

Ready to add another rumor to the pile surrounding the US Galaxy Nexus release date? No? I don't blame you. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do to stop this whirlwind of release date madness.

We've been hearing December 9th as the final release date for the Galaxy Nexus on Big Red for several days now; heck, an orgy of proof showed up yesterday that all but confirmed it - or so we thought.

Samsung-Galaxy-Note

We've been wondering whether or not the gargantuan Samsung Galaxy Note would ever make its way stateside, and I believe we just got our answer. This tablet-phone hybrid device (or as I like to call it, a phablet) just passed through the FCC, and it's sporting AT&T 2G/3G bands.

If you need a refresher on what makes the Note so unique (aside from its massive 5.3-inch display), watch this:

And a quick look at the specs of the international version:

  • 5.3-inch 1280x800 Super AMOLED HD display
  • 1.4GHz dual-core Exynos processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB built-in storage, microSD card slot
  • 8MP rear shooter, 2MP front camera
  • Android 2.3.5 with TouchWiz

Keep in mind that these specs could change for the US release, but that's probably not likely.

Galaxy-Nexus

Confirming recent rumors, a Verizon equipment guide has cropped up showing December 9th as the official launch date of Samsung's long-awaited Galaxy Nexus with VZW.

For those who have forgotten why they should be excited about the Galaxy Nexus, here are it's awesome specs one more time:

  • TI OMAP 4460 Dual-core processor at 1.2GHz
  • 1GB RAM
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 4.65" SAMOLED display at 1280x720
  • NFC Capability
  • 4G LTE Connectivity
  • A slender frame measuring 5.33"x2.67"x0.37"
  • 1080p Video recording

The Galaxy Nexus is certainly a beastly phone, and looks like it will be well worth the wait when Verizon customers can get their hands on the device in just a couple of days.

Yesterday, a Google representative confirmed that the upcoming Verizon Galaxy Nexus will not support Google Wallet, Google's NFC payment service. The news was disappointing - it is a Google phone after all, but understandable to a degree, since Verizon Wireless is part of the competing Isis consortium, which also partners with AT&T and T-Mobile.

Verizon Wireless, however, today posted a statement and wants everyone to know that it isn't blocking Google Wallet (they actually say "Verizon does not block applications" - orly?).

In a rather unfortunate bit of news regarding Verizon's Galaxy Nexus, a rumor that the device will not have support for Google Wallet has been confirmed.

A Google spokesperson confirmed to Computer World today that the hotly anticipated Nexus device won't support Google's burgeoning NFC-based mobile payment system, but gave no word as to why Verizon decided to forego the service.

Verizon's decision could have something to do, however, with Isis – a consortium comprised of VZW, AT&T and T-Mobile, who have paired with four major credit card companies to form their own NFC-based payment venture.
