Samsung Releases S Pen SDK Version 2.2 With Hover Support, New Brush, And More

One of the highlights of Samsung's Galaxy Note II announcement at IFA yesterday was the increased functionality carried by the device's hallmark S Pen stylus. The Note II's version of the Pen, besides being "ergonomically designed for the perfect grip," allows users to quickly clip, crop, and edit screen content, adding further illustration and handwritten keyword recognition. The Pen now also features a unique "hover" functionality, whereby an app can recognize that the Pen is near the screen and react accordingly with contextual menus or other activities.

The OG Galaxy Tab may be dead to Samsung, but, as always, you can count on the community to keep older devices alive. Official CM 10 nightlies for the original Galaxy Tab (p1000, p1000l, and p1000n) just hit the CyanogenMod download site, so owners of those devices can finally get a taste of Jelly Bean in its purest form.

Definition: A "nightly" is a bleeding edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.

Samsung's rumored Galaxy Camera, which we saw leak just a short while earlier, is now official. The Jelly Bean packing point-and-shoot is Samsung's first foray into Android-powered cameras, and is in fact helping to shape what could become a successful niche market (after all, we did just see Nikon unveil a new Android-powered point and shoot).

Of course what you're really interested in is the camera's specs. The Galaxy Camera doesn't seem to disappoint on paper, packing a 1/2.3" BSI CMOS sensor with an impressive 16.3 effective megapixels.

[Leak] Full Details And Images Of Samsung's Alleged Galaxy Camera Show Up Online Ahead Of Today's Announcement

The words "Samsung Galaxy Camera" are nothing new; in fact, we first heard about this potential late last week. Looks like there was actually something to that, as full details, specs, and even a couple of images have landed in the hands of PocketNow.

The camera is said to sport a massive 4.8" display, 21x optical zoom, and 16MP BSI CMOS sensor. Under the hood, it's purportedly sporting the same SoC found in the Galaxy S III - a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos - along with 8GB of storage and a microSD card slot.

The specifications have basically lined up with a lot of what has been rumored already, including:

  • 1.6GHz quad-core processor (probably a clocked-up Exynos 4412 from the Galaxy S III)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 5.5" Super AMOLED panel (1280x720 - true 16:9 compared to the original Note's 1280x800)
  • 3100mAh battery
  • 9.4mm thick
  • 16/32/64GB configurations
  • HSPA+ and LTE (depending on model - we'd put our money on a Snapdragon S4 version with LTE for the US)
  • Blue and white colors at launch (same as GSIII)
  • Android 4.1
  • 8MP rear / 1.9MP front cameras

PocketNow also discusses some of the new features of the Note II, including the improved S-Pen.

T-Mobile's Last Galaxy S II Update UVLH1 Also Quietly Removed Universal Search

Yesterday's update UVLH1 for the Galaxy S II on T-Mobile may have shaken things up a bit when it comes to NFC and ISIS, but it now looks like Samsung has also sneaked in a tweak dumbing down universal search. A similar "fix" was discovered in T-Mobile's version of the Galaxy S III 2 weeks ago, and it seems like Samsung is not taking any chances with its older sibling either.

List Of Some Isis Launch Devices Revealed - Includes Most Galaxy S III Variants And More

MasterCard and T-Mobile revealed some information about which devices we can expect Isis on when it launches at the end of September (according to Bloomberg), though we have no reason to believe this constitutes every supported device. Here's the list of compatible Android phones, as we've compiled it.

  • T-Mobile
    • Galaxy S II
    • Galaxy S III
    • HTC Amaze 4
  • Verizon
    • DROID Incredible 4G LTE
    • Galaxy S III
  • AT&T
    • One X
    • Galaxy S III

A number of other devices are listed as supporting "any" standard on MasterCard's list, some being international phones, so it's unclear whether phones labeled in this fashion that are in the US will actually support Isis, or if they are merely deemed compatible with it.

Samsung Canada Sends Loyal Facebook Fan A One-Of-A-Kind Galaxy S III, Complete With 'Epic Dragon'

Back in May of this year, a die-hard Samsung fan named Shane took to Facebook to try and score a free Galaxy S III with a custom piece of art (read: a drawing of a dragon). While Samsung was pleased with the gesture, they politely declined his request for a free phone, instead offering a drawn picture of a kangaroo riding a unicycle. No, I'm not making this up.

Given its awesomeness, the above image quickly went viral.
