PSA: US Customers, You Only Have A Few Hours To Wait – Google Confirms 9am PST Nexus Launch Time

image

If you're a resident of the US waiting for your chance at one of the new Nexus devices, you've no doubt been growing envious as countries around Europe (and Australia) got to place their own orders before (and after) the rumored 12am PST launch time for the US.

Well, I've got some (kind of) good news – the wait is almost over. Google has confirmed to us that both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 will be open for order to US Play Store customers beginning tomorrow, Tuesday November 13th, 2012 at 9:00am PST.

It looks like we can add one more market to the list of those to which Google has opened the Nexus gates. Customers in a few European countries can now claim their own Nexus 4 or Nexus 10 from Google Play. Note: since these orders just opened up, you may see some errors or inconsistencies with ordering or availability. If any of the devices appear to truly be out of stock, we'll update this post.

Google promised an OTA update that brings multiple user accounts to the Nexus 10 and lockscreen widgets to both the 10 and the 4 before the official launch date of November 13th. For two days now, Ron and I have been mashing the Check Updates button on our respective devices over and over hoping to get this update as quickly as possible... and we just got it.

This, of course, brings both of our devices up to full retail, complete with the above mentioned features.

Nexus 10 Review: Good, Because Pixels And Other Reasons

Over the past couple of years, Android tablets haven't really lived up to their full potential. We've seen multiple "game changers" or "iPad killers" come and go - yet the landscape has remained the same; that is, not very good. Further proving this, the best selling Android tablet of all time isn't an Android tablet at all - it's a Kindle. The Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD have been selling like hotcakes, but that really has nothing to do with Android - it's all about Amazon services.

Initial Impressions Of The Nexus 10: Say Hello To The New Benchmark For 10" Android Tablets

At the end of June, Google unveiled its first Nexus-branded tablet to the world: the Nexus 7. Since then, it has become the premier Android tablet, which is now selling at nearly a million units each month. For good reason - it's a fantastic tablet.

Despite the storm that rocked NYC, three days ago Google took the wraps off the latest addition to the Nexus tablet family: the Nexus 10.

Here Is Another Reason Google Continues To Shun SD Cards - Multiuser Support

The lack of expandable storage in Nexus devices becomes one of the hottest and most controversial topics every time Google does a refresh and we find out that the next generation lacks SD cards entirely yet again. Couple that with the decision to limit onboard storage options to 16GB max, which is the case with the Nexus 4 at the moment and was the case with the Nexus 7 for a while, and you've got a full-blown revolt.

[Update: It's Gone] Samsung Korea Hints At The Existence Of A 64GB Nexus 10

Update: Samsung amended the picture and took out the 64GB option. Was it included prematurely or just a mistake? We'll have to wait and see.

Hurricane Sandy may have stopped Google's live announcement of the new Nexus family (and Android 4.2) yesterday, but it didn't stop Google from releasing a truckload of information on its upcoming products online, including the Nexus 10.

The Nexus 10, in case you missed it, is Google's new 10" slate (in partnership with Samsung) that has an incredible 2560x1600 (~300ppi) display, Samsung's latest and greatest A15 dual-core processor at 1.7GHz, and 2GB RAM.

A Closer Look At Android 4.2's Quick Settings Menu And The Two-Finger Swipe To Open It Instantly

Back in early October while we were knee-deep in a pre-release Android 4.2 system dump, Ron found an interesting tidbit of info on a "quick settings" menu. Back then, it was a double pull down notification area that housed absolutely nothing of value. Thanks to today's Nexus/Android 4.2 announcements, however, we know not only what options the Quick Settings area will feature, but also how to really access it.

There are actually two ways to get into the QS menu, as highlighted by Hugo Barra in an incredible behind-the-scenes video put together by The Verge (see the full video here):

As you can see in the above clip, there will be a small toggle in the notification area directly beside the current Settings button, which, when pressed, will cause the notification area to do a neat little flip, revealing the Quick Setting area.
