This morning, Verizon announced that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has been infused with LTE, and that the mobile data-fied cheap-slate will be available on August 17th for a rather appealing $350. The Tab 2 may not be our favorite 7" Android tablet anymore (hey, who can blame us?), but when Eric reviewed it back in April, he found it to be a highly capable little device. And that's surprising, because he hates things with stupid names.

Yes, those bottom two actually are the only other images provided.

As usual, Verizon does require that, in addition to the $350 you'll be dropping on the device, that you add it to your Verizon account (or create one) with a data plan for at least one month.

With everyone anticipating the introduction of fabled CM10 builds, the CyanogenMod team is still hard at work bringing official CM9 support to even more devices. The latest additions to the list are the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (p3100, 3110, and 3113) and Tab 2 10.1 (p5100, 5110, 5113), each with their own nightlies ready for download and flashing.

It's worth noting, of course, that since these devices are just receiving their first nightlies, you may run into a bug here or there. But that's part of the fun of staying on the cutting edge of CM support, right? To grab your device's nightly build, just hit the appropriate link below.

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is, by most standards, the best Android tablet available for the price right now. That's what we thought when the tablet was available for $250. Today, though, on eBay's Daily Deals, the tablet is available for $219.99, or about $30 off. If you're in the market for a 7" tablet, the cost of an average night out at the movies is the difference between the Kindle Fire and this full Android 4.0 experience.

The deal is available for today only. This tablet was already a fantastic deal, though we're all eager to see what Google might announce at I/O.

Need a new tablet? You're in luck, because the selection just got a little wider today, thanks to new offerings from ASUS and Samsung.

ASUS Transformer Pad 300

If you're in the market for a nice high-spec-low-price 10.1-inch tablet, then the ASUS Transformer Pad 300 is a hard one to beat. It's packing specs pretty close to the Transformer Prime, but thanks to a slightly lower-quality display and plastic body, comes in at around $150 less than the Prime. And since it packs the Transformer name, a keyboard dock will also be available, essentially turning this into an Android laptop.

Specs:

  • 10.1-inch 1280x800 IPS display
  • 1.2Ghz quad-core Tegra 3 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB built-in storage
  • Plastic chassis
  • Android 4.0

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7

If a 10.1-inch tablet just isn't your thing and you'd rather have something a bit more pocket-able (and affordable), then the new 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 is an excellent choice.

While we're all waiting around for the Galaxy Note 10.1 to arrive and blow us away with its S-Pen powers on a Photoshop-equipped tablet, Samsung has set a couple new tablets loose on the market. Headlining on price, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 competes head-to-head with the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire. This tablet's advantage: Android 4.0. At $250, it's the cheapest way to get the full Android experience.

When we first heard about a $250 7" Android tablet, it wasn't from Samsung, but ASUS. Since then, ASUS has grown suspiciously quiet on the subject of its cheap tablets (perhaps because of a change in plans?), but Samsung has taken up the mantle.

Samsung first unveiled its newest duo of Galaxy Tabs back in February at Mobile World Congress, but left one key element out: pricing and availability. That final veil of mystery has now been removed, as the pair are now officially official.

SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS AMERICA, INC. GALAXY TAB 2 7.0

The Tab 2 7.0 is the replacement for the Tab 7 Plus, but doesn't offer a whole lot in way of upgrade:

  • 7-inch 1024x600 TFT display
  • 1GHz dual-core TI processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB built-in storage, microSD card slot
  • 3.2MP rear shooter, VGA front camera
  • Android 4.0 with Touchwiz UX

What the Tab 2 7.0 does do, however, is hit a pretty nice price point: $250.

We're at the Samsung booth at MWC this afternoon, and first on our list were Samsung's newest Tabs - the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. The devices are actually fairly similar - same processor, same cameras, microSD card slot, and 3G SIM card slot. Both are also running Android 4.0, which is pretty standard fare for tablets these days. They even share very similar, very plasticky rear covers.

In fact, on paper, both of these devices are actually very boring. But there's a key piece of information Samsung hasn't announced about these devices: pricing.

GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0) Product Image (4)

Samsung this morning took the wraps off yet another Galaxy device, and its first to run Android 4.0, the Galaxy Tab 2. This new Tab looks to be a cross between a downgraded Tab 7 Plus and a sequel to the original Galaxy Tab from the days of old. Here's a quick look at what this device has to offer:

  • 7-inch 1,024x600 PLS TFT display
  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8/16/32GB built-in storage, microSD card slot
  • 3MP rear shooter, VGA front
  • 4,000mAh battery
  • HSPA+ 21
  • Android 4.0 with Touchwiz UX

Thanks, Premysl!

The Tab 2 is set to land in the UK in March and then branch out globally.

If you thought Android powerhouse manufacturers Samsung and Motorola were going to rest on their accomplishments with the Galaxy Tab and XOOM (respectively), think again. In separate announcements today, it was revealed that both companies are already working on tablet sequels.

In a Facebook PR post for the upcoming "Samsung Mobile Unpacked" event on March 22, the Galaxy Tab maker posted an image of an unknown Honeycomb-running tablet with the numbers "78910" on the screen, accompanied by the question "What's your Tab life?" Whether these numbers refer to display sizes or not is still up for debate (let's just hope the figures aren't the price, shall we?).

It looks like a bit of an oopsie has resulted in Samsung's official Mobile World Congress (MWC) schedule leaking out. The details of the slip aren't available and aren't especially important, because this looks and sounds legitimate - especially since it (sort of) reinforces rumblings we've heard before.

gals2_tab2_MWC

Surprisingly, we have absolutely no idea what kind of hardware to expect. What I do know, though, is that if The S 2 ends up being this... boy, will my face ever be red. But hey - I still feel fairly safe in saying it won't be. (I hope.)
