With over 7400 entries from Facebook, Google+, and Twitter (in order of popularity), the 6th "supercharged" giveaway ended up being our largest giveaway yet. And no wonder - in addition to the usual main prize, the winner will also get a JAMBOX, a keyboard dock, and a $25 giftcard.

Before I move on to the winner, selected at random, I'd like to thank NVIDIA for providing the prizes. Check out their Tegra Zone on the web or on the Android Market.

And now - the winner!

Unfortunately, since there is only 1 grand prize and over 7,400 entries, the chance of winning one is...

Just two short days after Sammy released the kernel source code for the Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab 10.1, developer pershoot released the first overclocked kernel for the device, clocking a smoking 1.4GHz. The VZW variant of the Tab 10.1 will now be able to receive the same treatment, as the kernel source just hit Sammy's Open Source Release Center.

If you're the tinkerin'-type, you can grab the download from here -- otherwise, just hang out and let XDA work its magic!

Our 6th and largest ever giant giveaway is already underway, but where is the winner of the 5th one? You can blame me for that - I decided to take a little vacation and have only had time for peeking in here and there. Organizing and sorting through the entries is no small feat, and I finally found a couple of hours to do so on the quiet (for now - the hurricane is coming! :-S) coast of Cape Cod.

With over 4500 entries from Facebook, Google+, and Twitter (in this order of popularity), the 5th giveaway was great success.

In order to celebrate today's launch of TegraZone.com, the updated Tegra Zone Android app, and the new and really awesome Tegra-optimized game called Sprinkle, for our 6th giant giveaway we've once again partnered with NVIDIA, but this time the main prize - a 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - is accompanied by a smashing bonus: the Tegra Zone power pack.

"What goes into this Pack?" you might ask, and I'll tell you. The Tegra Zone power pack consists of:

The winner of the giveaway will receive both the Tab 10.1 and the power pack, so I hope by now the "Supercharged" part of the title is starting to make a bit more sense.

Samsung just started pushing a small, 3.22MB update to the Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab 10.1, most likely to address bugs that were introduced with TouchWiz UX. It's unclear exactly what the update fixes, only that it "improves stability."

I must warn you, though -- I accepted the download on my rooted Tab 10.1 with ClockworkMod recovery, and after the installation was complete, the screen went black (but remained on) and nothing else happened. After waiting for several minutes, I rebooted, only for the same thing to happen again. I was still able to get into ClockworkMod to flash a recent backup, but it was scary nonetheless.

Best Buy will be offering a pretty incredible deal beginning this Sunday, August 21st -- buy a qualifying Samsung HDTV, and you'll score a free 16GB Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Of course, the big question is: what defines "qualifying" in the mind of Best Buy? In order to snag the free Tab 10.1, you must purchase a Samsung 46" LED 1080p Smart 3D HDTV, which will set you back around $1500. If 46" just isn't big enough, the deal is also applicable with a 55" Sammy HDTV, which costs a cool $2000.

While I don't expect anyone to run to Best Buy on Sunday to drop $1500-$2000 just to get a free Tab 10.1, this could be the push that some of you need to grab the HDTV you've been eyeballing for the past few months.

Another week, another giveaway. This time we're giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (16GB, Wi-Fi) courtesy of Simply Applied - developers of the apps Sign and CritiCall.

Sign is a gesture-based texting and dialing application, allowing you to associate a drawn figure with calling or texting a particular contact. CritiCall is another handy app, one that I'm considering buying now that I've taken a look at it. While your phone is on silent mode, it allows phone calls and texts from pre-selected contacts to override silent and play ringtones and notifications normally. This is great for those of us who like turning our phones down at night, particularly if you're expecting a phone call.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is one of the finest Android tablets in existence right now. It's well supported, has a nice selection of accessories (both currently available and upcoming), and it feels great in the hand thanks to its ultra-thin profile. While most retailers are selling the 16GB variant for around $500, there is a deal on eBay's Daily Deals site featuring this tablet for $430 with free shipping, which is the lowest price that we've seen yet.

The Tab 10.1 shares the same guts as most other Honeycomb tablets, all wrapped up in a super-sleek shell:

  • 10.1 Inch 1280x800 display
  • 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 3MP rear shooter and a 2MP front camera
  • 16GB of built-in storage
  • Android 3.1 Honeycomb

If you're still not sold, you can take the Tab 10.1 for a virtual test drive and see what it's all about over at Sammy's Online Simulator.

This morning, as part of the ongoing Samsung v Apple patent litigation, the German court responsible for imposing a ban on Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales in the EU has backpedaled, temporarily lifting the injunction enjoining Samsung from distributing its flagship tablet in the European Union.

Why? It appears the German court decided that it may lack the authority to enjoin Samsung's Korean parent corporation under the EU's regulations regarding international jurisdiction. Long story short, Samsung Korea can sell all the Tab 10.1's in Europe that it wants, for now, except in Germany. Samsung Germany, however, cannot sell anywhere in the EU (this part of the injunction remains enforced).

So, here's a new one: Samsung has apparently halted the TouchWiz UX update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in order to "assess progress and ensure it's a positive experience for customers." We're not entirely sure what that means on a realistic level, but I'll go out on a limb and assume they found some sort of bug -- possibly one that is making some Tabs unusable by scrambling the graphics.

Naturally, since no real reason was given, we pinged once again to see if we could get more info -- like before, no details.

2011-08-15 14h00_32

At this point, we can only speculate what the issue could be -- but if you're a Tab 10.1 owner that has yet to get the TouchWiz UX update, now you know why.
