Rogers Galaxy S II LTE Receiving Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update

The Rogers version of the Galaxy S II LTE is finally receiving its update to Android 4.1.2, aka Jelly Bean, and the firmware upgrade is currently available through Kies (Rogers' own site does not yet show the update as available).

You can also download the update from Samsung Updates, software version I727RUXUMA7. Android 4.1 includes new features like Google Now, enhanced rich notifications, and some of Samsung's newer proprietary additions like Smart Stay. Rogers had originally promised the update in January, but yesterday announced that it had pushed the update to a February release.

Samsung: The Galaxy S Line Has Sold More Than 100 Million Units Globally

One hundred million – that's a pretty massive number. And it's one that Samsung can now tout as a sales figure for the Galaxy S line as a whole. That's a combined number for the entire series: the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy S III; no other Galaxy phones, like the Note, are included.

The original Galaxy S made its debut in June of 2010, with the Galaxy S II arriving just 10 months later – in April of 2011. Thirteen months after that, the GSIII – Samsung's most popular Galaxy S phone to date – was released.

And now here we are – 2.5 years and 100 million phones later – and Samsung has been clutch in putting Android on the map in a big way.

Samsung Announces That Jelly Bean Is Coming To 15 More Devices "Soon," Including The 'Galaxy Music'

Following the initial rollout of Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) to Galaxy S III phones in Poland this morning, Samsung has announced that the update will be coming to 15 more devices in other markets "soon."

This latest software update will bring Google Now to a wide range of models and see the frame rate of the entire OS increased thanks to Project Butter.

The devices due to be updated to Jelly Bean are:

  • Galaxy Tab 2.7.0
  • Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
  • Galaxy Note 10.1
  • Galaxy S II
  • Galaxy Note
  • Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
  • Galaxy S Advance
  • Galaxy S II LTE
  • Galaxy Music
  • Galaxy Chat
  • Galaxy Ace 2
  • Galaxy Beam
  • Galaxy Ace Plus
  • Galaxy Mini II
  • Galaxy S Duos

Although a device called the Galaxy Music is listed here, we aren't entirely sure what it is just yet.

Samsung Canada Announces ICS Upgrades For Various Galaxy S II, Tab, and Note Models; The Only Thing Standing In The Way Now Is Your Carrier

Samsung Canada has finished porting Ice Cream Sandwich to a whole bunch of devices, which in Samsung press release parlance means they are "eligible" for an upgrade. Does that mean you can hit that "update" button today and start downloading ICS? Well, that's complicated.

First though, the list of devices:

Now, for the caveats: Sammy says "The upgrade will be available today on select devices in Canada and will continue rolling out to devices and carriers throughout the quarter." and "The availability of the software upgrade and specific models upgradable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and wireless carriers' requirements.

New FCC Filing Hints At Samsung Galaxy S II LTE HD Coming To The USA

A phone with model name SHV-E120L recently passed through the FCC. Despite our initial excitement that it could be the Galaxy Nexus (née Prime),  it turned out to be none other than the Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE, king of lengthy titles.

We originally saw this phone announced last month in Korea, where Samsung wowed with a spacious 4.65" screen, 1280 x 720 resolution, and disappointingly restricted geographical range. Still, if you're itching for a phone with specs to compete with the upcoming Nexus, plus TouchWiz on Gingerbread, this filing could be the good news you were hoping for.
