With the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S just around the corner, Korea IT Times are reporting that Samsung plan to release the device at the same time in 110 countries around the world.

If reports of an Asian release date in June are accurate, this probably means that you’ll be able to get your hands on the Galaxy S in the next few weeks, regardless of whereabouts in the world you are.

This certainly comes as a surprise, following claims from Verizon’s CEO, Lowell McAdam, that Samsung can’t manufacturer enough AMOLED displays to support demand for the Droid Incredible.

Launching the Galaxy S, which uses the same AMOLED display, in 110 countries at the same time certainly goes some way to discrediting those claims, and is undoubtedly a publicity stunt to show that production of AMOLED displays is just fine.

We’ve already heard quite a bit about Samsung’s flagship Android device, the Galaxy S, but a definitive release date was never given to us. Until now.

CNET are reporting today that the smartphone will be available in Asia from June, which means that it could be arriving in just a week from now. Those wanting to buy it unsubsidized will have to pay a whopping S$1,098, which is quite steep considering that the HTC Desire is on the market for just S$898.

Of course, the Galaxy S is sporting Samsung’s Super AMOLED display, which offers better image quality and reduces 80% of sunlight glare, making it ideal for outdoor use.

If you are looking for a new Android phone, whether to upgrade your existing Android device or get introduced to the platform, pre-orders are now available in the UK for the Samsung Galaxy S.

The Galaxy S and the HTC EVO were among the biggest Android related announcements at the recent CTIA in Las Vegas.

Samsung did not hold back with this phone either, dropping some serious hardware into it that will make any Android fan foam at the mouth, specifically related to the screen.

Expansys, the company taking preorders, is stating that Galaxy S will be available Wenesday, June 2nd, 2010.

In a surprising turn of events, it’s beginning to look like Samsung’s latest Android superphone, the Galaxy S, may be headed to a carrier near you.

Forbes is reporting that an analyst for Broadpoint.AmTech, Mark McKechnie, ‘expects the Galaxy S to be sold at AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint before the end of June and to be picked up at Verizon "sometime later in the year"’. Those are certainly promising words, and Forbes seems to have enough faith in this prediction to run with it, but it should be noted that Samsung has declined to comment on carrier availability.

Android is already showing its potential on lower end handsets, and the Galaxy S is just one of many higher end phones (dubbed superphones by Google) that aim to provide a smoother and more powerful Android experience.

Last Updated: May 12th, 2010

Yesterday was an incredible day for us consumers! After only the first day of the 3-day CTIA Wireless 2010 mobile conference we've already seen some amazing new phones scheduled for release in the upcoming few months, such as the HTC EVO 4G.

Samsung did not remain on the sidelines either yesterday and demonstrated its new version of the Galaxy, called Galaxy S model GT-I9000. S seems to stand for either "Smart Life" (sigh, another custom Android flavor?) or Speed, just like the iPhone 3GS.

Here are the specs at a glance:

  • 1GHz Hummingbird CPU
  • a 4" Super AMOLED screen, which is supposed to be 20% brighter and eliminate 80% of sunlight glare, 480×800 resolution
  • 5MP camera
  • 720P video recording and playback - no word on HDMI output
  • 1GB internal storage
  • 8-16GB MicroSD card included, expandable to 32GB
  • 512MB RAM (?)
  • WiFi b/g/n - not just B/G but N too, impressive
  • Proximity, light, gyro sensors, digital compass, GPS
  • Bluetooth 3.0 A2DP + EDR - 3.0 here, not 2.1, we have progress, people!
