I'm a sucker for a good rumor, and I just can't pass up sharing this one with all of you. According to TmoNews, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II might be landing on T-Mobile. How this information came about, however, does make me a little skeptical (I said I'm a sucker for a good rumor, not that I believe every one that comes along).

The above image was taken from Adobe's website, and it appears to show a Galaxy S II on the T-Mo website. This has to be the real deal, too, because no one ever makes Photoshop errors, right?

If you've been on the hunt for a new live wallpaper, then look no more - XDA member Rawat has gotten his hands on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II and pulled a couple of live wallpapers from it that are ready for use on any WVGA device. These install just like a regular .apk and do not require root access or any other system modifications in order to work.

The first one is a simple beach setting complete with sand and tide. It is time-aware, so as the day progresses the wallpaper will change accordingly.

The second one is similar to the first in its simplicity.

In a press release sent out this morning, Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S II will be hitting UK shelves on May 1 - and that it will be targeting all major networks and retailers. The flagship of Samsung's Mobile Division has had its armament upped prior to release, cranking the device's dual-core Exynos processor to an impressive 1.2GHz.

We got to spend a little time with the Galaxy S II at CTIA last month, and the device's slim proportions (8.49mm thick) and light weight were difficult to believe in light of its dual-core status - it's a stealth fighter among jumbo jets like the ATRIX or BIONIC.

According to Samsung Mobile's India Twitter account, the Samsung Galaxy S II ("SGSII") has been delayed globally by "at least a month."

Relatedly, GSM Arena has confirmed that the SGSII has undergone a change in specification - bumping its dual-core Samsung Exynos processor up to a screaming 1.2GHz. The official SGSII microsite no longer lists the device's exact processor specs - furthering speculation that the change will probably be officially announced by Samsung at some point.

Could this be related to the decision to manufacture Tegra 2 versions of the SGSII? The Exynos is a fairly new chipset, and there's a possibility that Samsung has decided to have it power the company's upcoming tablets, the Tab 8.9 and 10.1, as well.

If there is one question that I get asked nearly everyday, it’s “When is [insert device here] coming out?” Fortunately, that question is now a little bit easier to answer because our friends over at Phandroid have gotten wind of what’s coming down the pike for Verizon this Spring and, if this leak is legitimate, it’s going to be Android-filled. Here is a breakdown of what to expect:

  • April 7, 2011 – Casio Commando, Samsung [DROID] Charge
  • April 14, 2011 – Sony Xperia Play
  • April 28, 2011 – HTC Incredible 2
  • May 5, 2011 – LG Revolution
  • Later in May – Motorola Droid Bionic, Motorola Droid X2, Samsung Galaxy 2 (is this what they're calling the S2?)

It is noted that the Bionic, the Droid X2, and the Galaxy 2 are all going to be 4G devices, with the Incredible 2 simply tagged “Global.”

From the looks of things, this year's "Summer of Droid" will arrive to Verizon early.

Ever since its unveiling at MWC, the Samsung Galaxy S II has generated plenty of hype. But with no release date in sight, there's no telling how long it will be before we can get our hands on the device. Fortunately, Ukrainian site gagadget managed to get a preliminary version of the phone, and while it isn't clear how much is finalized, it does give us a good idea of what to expect from Samsung's next flagship handset.

The review starts off by listing the all-important specs, though most have been already been made official:

  • Dual-core 1GHz Exynos processor
  • 4.3" 800x480 Super AMOLED Plus display
  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • TouchWiz 4.0
  • 1GB RAM
  • 116 grams
  • 8 megapixel camera with LED Flash and 1080p video capture
  • 2MP front-facing camera
  • 1650mAH battery

The device's build quality is a huge improvement over the original.

Something that surprised me at the CTIA conference yesterday was the connector port used in both the HTC EVO 3D and View 4G. Instead of 2 distinct standards, like on the EVO 4G - MicroUSB and MicroHDMI - the new EVO devices have only 1 port that uses the brand new MHL technology (Mobile High-Definition Link). And it is brilliant.

The MHL 1.0 standard, finalized a few months ago, uses a single port to connect both HDMI and MicroUSB, and get this - it is able to charge via HDMI as well. Your MHL-enabled TV, connected to your mobile device via an MHL-HDMI cable, will be able to charge it much faster than MicroUSB.

Earlier today, Engadget managed to get their hands on the Spring release schedule for UK carrier, Three. Along with some exciting, though previously known, products, such as the HTC Flyer, Desire S, ChaCha, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, and the Blackberry Playbook, we got our first peek at the Samsung Galaxy S II Mini.

While this device is the little brother of the Galaxy S II, the specs on this phone are anything but mini. With a 1.4GHz (potentially dual-core?) processor, 3.7" screen, Gingerbread at launch and HSPA+21 data connectivity, this handset seems to break the stigma that "mini" means "budget".

Tegra2

On Wednesday night, NVIDIA confirmed a rumour that had been swirling around for the last few days. According to a presentation they gave and attended by the folks at ITProPortal, NVIDIA's dual core Tegra 2 chipset is powering three major handsets right now: the Motorola Atrix, the LG Optimus 2X, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II.

When first announced, the Galaxy S II was said to be packing the Exynos, Samsung's own SoC. Now it is clear that they will be releasing two versions of the new device, either with their Exynos Chipset or NVIDIA's. ITProPortal speculates that Samsung is doing this to boost the number of handsets that can be moved to market, as production of the Exynos is still ramping up.

Could the ship date for Samsung's Galaxy S II i9100 be moved up to March? So says UK eTailer Clove, who has apparently had pre-orders open for some time now, with prices at £510 and £590 for the 16GB and 32GB versions. Surprisingly, it turns out they're not the only one with open doors - Mobile City Online is taking pre-orders for the i1900 as well, charging $700 with free shipping, with a ship date of Q1 2011 (which would be by the end of March). While Mobile City doesn't say whether that's the 16GB or 32GB version, Clove's prices would suggest that it's likely the 16GB.
