Apple And Samsung Swap Patent Violations In South Korea - Galaxy Nexus, iPhone 4, And Others Banned

While the tech world waits with bated breath for the conclusion of Apple's United States case against the world's most prolific smartphone maker, another case is just wrapping up in Samsung's home country of South Korea. The Wall Street Journal reports that a Seoul court found both Apple and Samsung in violation of each other's patents, with the former violating two of Samsung's patents and the latter violating one of Apple's.

Samsung must pay 25 million won to Apple while they get 20 million won in return for each patent violation - in U.S. dollars, that's $22,000 and 2x$17,650, respectively. More interesting are the device bans put in place.

Galaxy SII 4G Coming To Boost Mobile's Lineup Promising "High-End Speed And Performance Without A Contract"

In a press release on behalf of Boost Mobile and Samsung Mobile today, it was announced that Boost's lineup is soon to be enhanced by the addition of the Galaxy SII 4G. The SII 4G, which initially debuted back in 2011, is just what you'd expect from a Galaxy SII variant: a 4.5" Super AMOLED Plus display, dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 8MP camera (with a 2MP front-shooter), and 16GB internal storage. Unlike its older counterpart, however, Boost's SII 4G will be shipping with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

While a bit dated, the SII 4G is still a powerful device, and its addition to Boost Mobile's lineup will be great for Boost customers who want a capable device "without the stress of a contract." From the PR:

“Together with Samsung we continue to launch compelling device options from entry level to 4G-enabled smartphones to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Andre Smith, vice president-Boost Mobile.

Samsung Releases The Ice Cream Sandwich Kernel Source Code For The AT&T Galaxy S II

When a new device comes out or gets a new version of Android, one thing developers want need to ensure ROMs run as smoothly and efficiently as possible is the kernel source code. Samsung has been quite good about releasing source code for new and updated devices, and it has now made available the Ice Cream Sandwich kernel source for the AT&T Galaxy S II.

CyanogenMod 9 Hits RC2, Adds Support For Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Skyrocket, International SIII, And More

Each and every day we inch closer to a final release of CM9. While we're all excited for CM9 to hit the stable channel, we all know what that really means: we're one step closer to CM10 nightlies and Jelly Bean goodness across the board. In fact, a few devices have already gotten an early taste of what CM10 will be like.

As excited as we all are for CM10, though, those who are currently running CM9 will be glad to know that RC2 was released late last night. As expected, this basically just brings stability improvements and bugfixes, but it also adds support for a handful of new devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (all variants)
  • Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
  • Samsung Galaxy S II (T-Mobile)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note (AT&T)
  • Samsung Galaxy S III i9300 (International version only)

As noted above, RC2 for the Galaxy S III is for the version of the device with the Exynos processor only.

AT&T Galaxy S II ICS Update Now Rolling Out Via Samsung Kies, No OTA

After a little bit of a false start several days ago, it looks like the much-anticipated Android 4.0.3 update is rolling out for the AT&T flavor of the Samsung Galaxy S II. The update was available briefly a few days ago via the Samsung Kies update software, but Samsung pulled the file saying it was merely a "test."

Users from XDA have now successfully installed the update through Kies on stock devices. It's looking like the update is not going to go out over-the-air, but will be restricted to Samsung's old-fashioned desktop software. That means you'll have to plug your phone in with a cable to run the update, like it's the middle-ages or something.

Official CyanogenMod 9 Nightlies Hit The T-Mobile Galaxy S II And AT&T Galaxy S II Skyrocket

A few days ago, T-Mobile's version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, codenamed "Hercules," received a hearty scoop of Ice Cream Sandwich. Today, the fun continues for owners of the device, as Team Douche just made available official CM9 nightlies.

Definition: A "nightly" is a cutting-edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.

It could oftentimes be unstable and not properly tested, lacking any changelogs, but eventually evolving into alphas, betas, release candidates, and finally stable releases.

Additionally, those in possession of AT&T's Galaxy S II Skyrocket (a device that has not yet been dealt an official dose of ICS) can rejoice as well - CM9 nightlies are now out for this handset too.

PSA: T-Mobile Will Begin Rolling Out Android 4.0.3 To The Galaxy S II Tonight At 11PM EST Via Kies

We already knew that today was the big day for T-Mobile's Galaxy S II to receive Ice Cream Sandwich. T-Mobile has just let on that the rollout will begin tonight at 11pm EST. The update will be done via Kies, so unfortunately the update won't be showing up over the air. Hope you've got a microUSB cable handy.

The update is just slightly behind the 4.0.4 that other devices have been receiving, but users probably won't be complaining too much. So, if you've got the T-Mobile Galaxy S II, be standing by your desktop tonight. If you don't already have Kies installed on your machine, now would be a good time to get a jump on that.

T-Mobile Galaxy S II Will Be Getting Ice Cream Sandwich Update On June 11

T-Mobile just announced via Twitter that its iteration of the Galaxy S II will be getting the Android 4.0 bump come June 11th.

No update doc is yet available on T-Mobile's website illustrating the changes, but one should be coming sooner rather than later. The update will take place via Kies.

[Updated] Incremental Gingerbread Update (Build T989UVLDE) Now Rolling Out To The Samsung Galaxy S II On T-Mobile

T-Mobile just updated its support page for the Samsung Galaxy S II with details of an OTA update that should be rolling out right now. Before you get your hopes up, though, there's some bad news: it's not ICS. It's just an incremental Gingerbread update that brings a handful of enhancements and improvements:
