AT&T Releases List Of Devices To Receive Ice Cream Sandwich Update

Seeing as how the HTC Vivid officially started getting its update to ICS this morning, AT&T thought it would be the best time to go ahead and tell everyone else who will (and won't) be getting the update as well. While this list holds few surprises when it comes to devices that made the cut, there are a few devices seemingly absent:

  • Motorola ATRIX 2
  • Motorola ATRIX 4G
  • Pantech Burst
  • Pantech Element
  • Samsung Captivate Glide
  • Samsung Galaxy Note
  • Samsung Galaxy S II

[Review] For A Budget Phone, The Pantech Burst Packs Plenty Of Bang For The Buck

While the rest of the world looks to the next super-spectacular smartphone with the latest technology, Pantech has decided to keep it simple and cheap with the Burst. This nice little smartphone comes in at a measly $49.99 with a new two-year contract through AT&T, and that makes it great for Android fans on a budget, those looking for a decent but cheap phone for their kids, or people who are new to the smartphone world and are looking to test the waters. I know you must be thinking (because I did, too) that overall quality must suffer greatly for Pantech to get to such a low price point, but that's where you (and I) would be wrong.

AT&T embraced the go big or go home motto like a boss today at CES -- it announced six new Android devices. Three premium phones, two budget phones, and a budget tablet. Not only that, but every single one of these new devices will run on its 4G LTE network. Let's take a look at what we know so far, and we'll update as more info shows up.

Update: I would like to note that just because all of the phones are shown running Gingerbread, that doesn't mean they won't ship with ICS. We may not see many of these devices until Q2, so don't get frustrated.

Pantech Element 'Waterproof' Tablet Outed Before CES, Coming To AT&T On January 8th For $299 With Two-Year Agreement

The carrier-connected Honeycomb tablet arena hasn't been very successful up to this point, mostly due to the outrageous prices that the units have been showing up with -- we've yet to see one for less than $400. Enter the Pantech Element, a "waterproof" tablet that looks to change the game with its sub-$300 price tag.

The Element is an 8-inch Honeycomb-powered tablet that runs on AT&T's LTE network, packing a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of storage, 5MP rear shooter, and 2MP front camera. It is also one of the first tablets to claim waterproof status. Except it's really not waterproof - it's more splash proof, assuming all the ports are closed up properly.

Pantech To Bring Non-Touch Gestures To Android Phones

Pantech is looking to pull itself out of the low-end budget phone ditch by bringing some pretty awesome non-touch gesture recognition to Android. Imagine this: you're working on a car, cleaning the kitchen, painting... anything that where you're hands are going to dirty or wet and you don't want to touch your phone.  You receive an incoming call -- what do you do? How cool would it be to simply wave your hand over the device to answer? No touching. No getting it wet or dirty.

Sure, that sounds cool, but now you want to see it in action. You're in luck!

AT&T Announces Samsung DoubleTime, Pantech Pocket, Motorola Atrix 2, And More - The Fall Lineup Seems To Have Something For Everyone

AT&T has just given customers a handful of devices to look forward to, announcing earlier this evening the addition of five new Android devices to their fall lineup. The new line is largely populated by Android devices aimed at budget-conscious users, but those looking for higher-end devices will have plenty of options as well.

Motorola Atrix 2

First up is the Motorola Atrix 2. Following up on the original Atrix, it's compatible with a special 'Lapdock' to increase productivity. In keeping with the Atrix name, the phone is packing some rather nice specs under its sleek frame:

  • UMTS 850/1900/2100
  • GSM 850/900/1800/1900
  • 4G HSPA+ 21 Mbps (Category 14)
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor
  • Internal memory: 8 GB ROM, 1 GB RAM, 2 GB microSD™ card (expandable to 32GB)
  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • 4.3-inch qHD screen 960x540TFT, with more than  500,000 pixels for sharper, clearer display
  • 8 MP camera and LED flash
  • Front-facing camera
  • 1080p HD video capture, 30 frames per second playback
  • On Device Encryption (ODE) and Enhanced Exchange ActiveSync® (EAS)

Samsung DoubleTime

Samsung's DoubleTime is no doubt a lower-end Android phone, putting an emphasis on its compact, portable design and full flip keyboard, and running Android 2.2 (which seems a bit odd considering the impending release of Ice Cream Sandwich, which will make Froyo 2 steps behind current technology).

Verizon Wireless Announces The Pantech Breakout, An Affordable 4G LTE Handset

If there's one thing to be said about Verizon's 4G LTE network - aside from the speed, of course - it's that the devices equipped to run on it have been less than economically priced up to this point. Each device released with LTE connectivity has dropped with an initial price of at least $250 (usually more) -- a less than ideal price considering the accompanying two-year agreement.

Enter the Pantech Breakout, VZW's first affordable LTE handset. From a spec standpoint, the Breakout is a solid mid-range device, packing hardware similar to the HTC ThunderBolt and the Samsung Droid Charge:

  • 4-inch 480x800 display
  • 1GHz processor (single-core)
  • 512MB RAM
  • 5MP rear camera, VGA front facing
  • 4G LTE
  • 8GB microSD card included
  • Android 2.3

The real difference between the Breakout and other LTE-infused handsets is the price: $100 (after $50 mail-in-rebate) with a two-year agreement.

Pantech Vega No.5 To Be Released In Korea This Month, Sports A 1.5GHz Dual-Core Snapdragon And 1GB Of RAM

If you've been looking for a not-small-enough-to-be-a-phone-but-not-big-enough-to-be-a-tablet device (and the Dell Streak 5 just isn't your cup of tea), then the upcoming Pantech Vega No.5 may be just what the doctor ordered. Before we dive into the specs, you should be aware that there is no word on when (or if) the Vega No.5 will ever become available internationally, but it will be available in Korea later this month.
