It has not been a good week for Android manufacturers in Europe. Shortly, after it was announced by a Dutch court that Samsung had infringed one of Apple's patents, a Motorola Atrix advertisement was banned in the UK for falsely claiming to be the "world's most powerful smartphone".

The UK Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) received complaints from Samsung users that the Atrix ads were misleading. The Atrix features a 1GHz dual-core processor, while the Samsung Galaxy S II has a faster 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

In  the past, teasers, trailers, and other forms of video goodness for the Droid lineup have left me in a state of awe. I can still remember the amount of excitement that I felt the first time I saw the teaser for the Droid X -- it was chill inducing. The second that eye lit up with the infamous red glow and the "droid" audio resonated through my ear canals; oh man, it was good.

Even though the HTC EVO 4G is now well over a year old, it holds a special place in Sprint's heart, and because of that (and you know, the fact that it's the most popular Android phone on the network), the company seems committed to providing us with timely updates. A new maintenance update with version number 4.53.651.1 and the following changes and fixes is next up for the OG 4.3" pioneer that changed the smartphone world:

HTC EVO Software Update - 4.53.651.1

Enhancements/Fixes:

- Integrated voice recognition accuracy with voice search and voice-to-text

- Image size issue with contact transfer over bluetooth

- Images cut off in Picasa

- Group contacts not in alphabetical order

- Out of memory, Unable to send SMS

The update should be rolling out over the next 1-2 weeks starting now.

Looks like today is going to be a bad day for Samsung, as a Dutch court has just granted Apple's request for a preliminary injunction banning the sale and importation of the Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and Ace smartphones from the European Union. This decision follows Apple's earlier victory in Germany where distribution of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was banned everywhere in the EU, save for the Netherlands.

We've been fascinated with the Parrot ASTEROID ever since we first saw it at CES, but as the company has missed its Q2 deadline and let out nary a peep about the Android-powered car unit in the last seven months, we were starting to get concerned about our chances of seeing it hit the market.

Fortunately, Parrot quenched our thirst for further information this morning - the AR.Drone manufacturer published an official press release, and the ASTEROID's availability is a mystery no more.

After months of anticipation, we are now finally on the verge of the Galaxy S II launch in the U.S. Yesterday's events now have us strongly convinced that the first variant of the Galaxy S II, most likely on Sprint (as the recently approved by the FCC Epic Touch 4G, if you remember), will be launching Friday, September 9th, 2011.

Clue #1

First, today we received a tip from a trusted source inside Sprint, putting the 9/9/11 date on the radar with a very high probability.

Samsung announced today that it will be launching four new Galaxy smartphones together with a completely revamped naming strategy for these and future devices.

This "simplified" system of naming smartphones will group Samsung's upcoming devices into five distinct classes from entry-level phones ("Y") all the way to premium models ("S"). Each class will be represented by a different letter and additional indicators (such as "Pro", "Plus", and "LTE") will be used to identify the "specific functionality" of that device.

We already know virtually every detail about the upcoming Droid Bionic, and now Phone Arena has snagged a photo of a VZW internal document that basically verifies the last of the rumors: release date and price. We've been hearing rumors of a September 8th date for some time now, and one look at the image shows that pretty much hits the nail on the head. The phone will come in at a minimum advertised price of $299 with a two-year contract, which has quickly become the standard pricing for all of Big Red's 4G LTE phones.

An unexpected update started rolling out to the ASUS Transformer earlier today that brings the build number up to 8.6.5.9. Even more unexpectedly, this update reportedly includes Netflix support without requiring root. Of course, the official Netflix app in the Market doesn't yet support the Transformer, but you can grab the latest version here.

There is also a firmware update available for the dock, bringing the version up to EP101-0213.

We've seen the Sony S1 tablet randomly show up over the last several months, showing off everything from its unique form factor to custom interface. Some formerly missing details have now surfaced that suggest we could see this tablet hit the market sometime within the first two weeks of September, which falls right in line with previous rumors that pre-orders would begin in the UK on September 1st.

The S1's official retail name has also came to light today, and it will be known simply as "Tablet S." Unlike previous reports suggested, the tablet will ship with Android 3.1 intact (not Android 3.2) with an expected upgrade to ICS when it becomes available.
