Samsung Galaxy S III Rooted By Chainfire, Shows Samsung Is Still Cool With Unlockability

Even though the device hasn't even hit the street, noted Android developer Chainfire has obtained root on the Samsung Galaxy S III. Chainfire doesn't actually have the device in hand, so don't start berating him with questions on that matter. Rather, he got root on a firmware build that was leaked to him, and has a few juicy tidbits to share with everyone.

Motorola Updates ICS Timeline, Droid RAZR/MAXX And VZW XOOM Should Get It Before The End Of June

Motorola has been pretty transparent about the update process to Ice Cream Sandwich, keeping users in the loop regarding when updates for newer devices should be available. In that light, It just posted an updated to its Upgrade News page with a whole slew of new information, including which devices should see ICS before the end of Q2:

[Update] Google Appears To Have Backpedaled On Music Deauthorizations, Now Allowing More Than Four Devices To Be Removed

Well, that didn't take long. Earlier today, we reported that Google was limiting the number of devices that can be deauthorized from your Google Music account. The official limit on Google Music devices was 10 active devices, with the proviso that up to 4 devices could be removed from your account every year. As of this moment, the Google Music help page still echoes this, but Google might be back pedaling.

Verizon Pushing A Small Bug-Fix OTA (Version VS910ZV9) To The LG Revolution

Verizon just updated the support documents for the LG Revolution with details of a new OTA update that brings a few bug fixes to the device, as well as Verizon's "Enhanced Customer Support" tool with remote diagnostics (which the device should've gotten back in March - perhaps Verizon is just reminding us that the feature exists).

[Update: Available Now] HTC Sensation 4G On T-Mobile Set To Receive ICS On May 16th, Amaze 4G To Follow 'In The Coming Weeks'

Update: The ICS update should be rolling out to the Amaze 4G now. Head to the Settings -> About menu to check for it.

Earlier this month, T-Mobile updated the support documents for the Sensation 4G to let users know that the ICS update would be available "very soon." Now, we have an exact date for that very soon: May 16th.

Beginning May 16, an optional update will be available for the Sensation 4G to update to the latest operating system, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

LG Officially Announces Optimus UI 3.0, Claims It's 'Unobtrusive And Simple'

LG just officially announced version 3.0 of its custom interface, which it is now calling 'Optimus UI'. The updated skin aims to be "unobtrusive and simple" according the LG, as well as bring a handful of new features to LG's handsets:

  • The ability to unlock the phone by dragging anywhere on the screen
  • A new Pattern Lock that allows users to preset the most frequently used function, such as the camera, which automatically opens once the phone is unlocked
  • A simpler version of Optimus UI 3.0 for new smartphone users which organizes the main applications so that they are the easiest to access
  • A new Voice Shutter that allows users to capture photos using only voice commands
  • A special camera feature that enables users to pick up the best shot among multiple images including the moment just before the shutter button is depressed
  • An Icon Customizer that provides an additional level of personalization by allowing users to set their own photos as icons and shortcut images
  • The addition of a Download category to the menu for easier organization
