Motorola Mobility Takes Down The Moto X's 'Made In America' Sign, Closes Factory In Texas

The time has come for America's most patriotic phone to remove its ten-gallon hat and hop down from its saddle, because Motorola Mobility has announced that it's closing down the high-end phone's assembly plant in Fort Worth, TX. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the facility will close its doors before the end of the year.

"What we found was that the North American market was exceptionally tough,"

- Motorola President Rick Osterloh

The reason is simple, the Moto X simply did not sell enough units for Motorola to achieve economies of scale.

Oppo Announces The N1 Mini, Aggravatingly Redefines What "Mini" Means

You might remember the Oppo N1 as the first official CyanogenMod phone, which was quickly eclipsed by the OnePlus One. It was a very big phone (physically, not popularity-wise), but now the Chinese OEM is announcing a smaller version called, you guessed it, the N1 Mini. The thing is, the mini version of the N1 still has a 5-inch screen.

Original Galaxy Gear Leaves Android Behind, Now Getting Updated To Tizen

We knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any less weird to me. Samsung is now rolling out an update to the original Galaxy Gear that effectively removes Android, replacing it with the company's self-built mobile OS, Tizen (which is what the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit are all running). This immediately raises one question in my mind: since "Galaxy" is Samsung's branding for Android devices, will it just be called "Gear" moving forward?

Just like the previous entry in the Active family, the S5 Active is water and dust resistant, and looks quite capable of taking some abuse. The S5 Active, as you may guess, is essentially the Galaxy S5 in a rougher, tougher chassis.

The Sony SmartWatch 2 still goes for $199.99 new, but today you can get one around your wrist for less than half the price. Cow Boom, a Best Buy brand, has pre-owned Sony smartwatches in stock that it's willing to let go for $79.99. These may come with scratches and dents, but they're still going to work. I'll admit, that may not sound entirely compelling, but that's the risk you take whenever you buy something used.

Android 4.4 KitKat Is Rolling Out To The Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Samsung leaves no phone behind. Well okay, it does, but not all the time. I mean, certainly not a flagship device... usually. At any rate, the Galaxy Note II on Sprint is getting bumped up to Android 4.4 as we speak. Isn't that nice?

Google Slowly Turning On Newer, Cleaner App Results UI In Search App [Poll]

Several days ago, it was brought to our attention that Google's Search app finally allowed completely touchless reminders, whereby a user could set a reminder from start to finish without touching the device. Previously, reminders required a touch confirmation at the end of the process. Now, the "voice of Google" simply asks if the user would like the reminder to be set. Saying "yes" will complete the interaction.

It seems this isn't the only server-side switch Google is pulling, though.
