Following last month's Transformer Pad 300 (TF300) OTA update to v9.4.3.29, ASUS is pushing out a new bug fixer v9.4.3.30 with a host of improvements, the most notable one of which is the upgraded camera firmware. I just completed the process on my tablet, and it only took a few minutes.

So what's new in .30? This question is answered by none other than... ASUS Finland, of course, which provided the upcoming changelog almost a week ago on the Facebook page in all its Engrish glory:

TF300T ICS v9.4.3.30
- SYSTEM – improve stability of Chrome browser
- SYSTEM – improve camera performance
- Pictures more colorful
- better audio- white balance(AWB) and auto-focus(AE)
- better continues-auto-focus (CAF)
- SYSTEM – fix the bug “wifi occasionally fail to connect after resume from suspend status”
- Appbackup – fix the bug “have to key-in password again after change screen orientation”

To force your device to check for this update, go to Settings > About > System Firmware Update and press Check Update.

Back at the announcement of the Galaxy S III, many people were quick to note that Samsung disclaimed the availability of the Exynos quad-core processor powering the beast as contingent on certain issues of geography. And then we learned that, for reals, the US versions of the Galaxy S III would be shipping with Snapdragon S4 dual-cores onboard - the MSM8960 chipset, to be precise.

And that included T-Mobile's version, which many speculated (myself included) might be the only Exynos-packing Galaxy S III to make its way to the US of A.

The Galaxy S III is a big deal. It's kind of hard to overstate it. Samsung is the biggest, baddest Android manufacturer out there, and this is their new flagship device for the next year.

Samsung is taking advantage of their newfound clout in the Android ecosystem: it's the first Android phone to escape the cellular carriers' meddling changes. Sammy managed to pulled off a unified launch across all the major US carriers - there will be no weird variants, and no names that sound like Street Fighter II sequels.

One of the coolest features of Google Maps is the ability to show live traffic patterns on major roadways. Now, Google is rolling out this feature to seven new countries, as well as expanding coverage in 19 others. The new countries in the inner circle are Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Mexico, Peru, Romania and South Africa. Exciting!

As users of the service are no doubt aware, having your country or city covered doesn't necessarily mean every street is covered.

In a post to its community boards today, Sprint has confirmed that its Galaxy SIII will be delayed. The statement indicates that, due to overwhelming demand (sound familiar?), the device will be available only through Web Sales and Telesales on its June 21st launch date, with all other channels getting the device "next week." Here's the full post:

Due to overwhelming demand and limited supply for Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S III, we are running a little behind on deliveries.

T-Mobile, in an effort "to ensure customers receive the best possible experience," (a familiar opener to bad news) has decided to split the launch of their variant of Samsung's Galaxy SIII into two phases. The carrier recently announced that "select Retail and Branded locations" in the top 29 markets will get the device on the 21st, with a limited number of devices available online, and further launches anticipated to happen about a week later on the 27th.

Owners of Archos' G9 series of tablets should be receiving an update today, bringing the software version of their devices to 4.0.7. The update contains mostly bug fixes, but also enhances graphics performance:

Version 4.0.7 - June 19th, 2012

  • Applications: fix no audio when launching video capture impacting applications like Skype
  • Display: graphics performance enhancements
  • Hard drive based products: avoid potential loss of hard drive when 3G USB port is switched on with no peripheral attached
  • Wi-Fi: fix some more disconnect cases happening on some access points

Archos has been fairly consistent about updating the devices regularly - the last OTA update went out just over a month ago.

And you thought carriers/manufacturers didn't care about their customers! You should be ashamed of yourself! Turns out that carriers actually do care - why else would Big Red be preparing an OTA update for the old school Droid Incredible. Sure, it's far from a major update, but it it something:

You guys remember Voice Search right? That app that every Android user ever has installed on their phone or tablet? Well, the Wall Street Journal, best known for being right about a good number of things, is reporting that Google has "accelerated plans" to launch a "Siri competitor." Our super secret sources tell us that Google will "launch" this competitor in August, 2010.

The WSJ doesn't have much more information beyond that:

Google, meanwhile, has accelerated plans to launch its own Siri competitor that would work on Android-powered devices, people familiar with the matter have said.
