Sprint has shared a small update rolling out to the LG Optimus G, but right from the beginning, let's temper those expectations. Version LS970ZVC doesn't do much - actually, there's nothing here really worth mentioning. A few bugs related to creating an email account and managing calendar events have been fixed, and that's about it.
This is the first update Sprint's rolled out to the device since the big leap to Android 4.1.2 back in March. Read More
That didn't take long. Just 2 days after Justin Case released a root method for the Moto X, Droid Ultra, Droid Mini, and Droid Maxx, he's already back with a hack that bypasses write protection. By disabling the write protection afforded by the bootloader, it becomes possible to flash 3rd-party ROMs, themes, and other mods. In other words, the flood gates are open for the modding community.
Much like MotoRoot, PwnMyMoto is packaged as a single app that must be sideloaded with adb. Read More
We already know T-Mobile is planning to release the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear on October 2nd. If you just can't wait to make your intentions known, you only have to wait until September 18th. That's when preorders for the Note 3 go live on T-Mobile's site.
T-Mobile doesn't do subsidies anymore, instead preferring payment plans. However, the Note 3 is still going to take a bite out of your bank account. Read More
Are you the kind of hulking man-monster than accidentally crushes tiny conventional smartphones in your Bunyan-like grasp? Alternately, do you always carry a purse (you too, ladies) and prefer a phone with as big a screen as possible? And are you a current or prospective US Cellular customer? Well then, prepare to have your day made. The leviathan Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 goes on sale for US Cellular tomorrow for $149.99 on-contract after an instant rebate. Read More
When Google launched the Android Device Manager in early August, I applauded the initiative because we finally got a much-needed security solution that was built into every Android devices that ships with Google's services. Rather, it was a good start, since the functionality was so limited: location, remote wipe, and alarm.
For the last two days, I've been digging around the new Google Play Services APK 3.2.64 that started rolling out to Android devices everywhere. Read More
If you're one of the many who thinks Motorola's X phone is the bee's knees, then Amazon potentially has a deal that may be of interest. Why "potentially," you ask? Because this one's only good for Sprintsters (or those considering the jump).
For the time being, Amazon is letting the X go for $99 on-contract for both new agreements and existing customers. Read More
Unfortunately, the black version is currently out of stock, so it's white or bust at the moment.
In a post to its blog today, Sony gave a brief look at a new device to be announced this Sunday, the 15th of September.
What the company calls the BRAVIA Smart Stick looks like a waffle or small wafer cookie, and "plugs into the MHL connection on the back of 2013 Sony BRAVIA televisions, with another short cable plugged into the USB port for power." Right now it's unclear if the device will be compatible with other TV models. Read More
Update: And it's gone. 650 were sold in about 30 minutes. Hope you got yours.
Let's cut to the chase. You know what this tablet is, and you know this is $30 off the official price. The last time this deal came up, it was gone almost before we could tell you about it. So go. Go now.
Buying a Verizon G2? You might want to think twice about rooting it, because Big Red has specifically configured its version of the device to show whether or not the phone is rooted in the "status" sub-menu of the About Phone area. Why? Almost certainly for the express purpose of voiding warranties or returns for people who screw up their phones (or, allegedly screw up) after rooting them.
I have confirmed the rooting status flag is also present on my Verizon G2 review unit, but not the AT&T or international unlocked variants. Read More
Verizon hasn't explicitly announced an Android 4.2 update for the DROID DNA, but in a way, they have. The company has updated the support page for the nearly one-year-old handset with an in-depth look at what new goodies to expect. It's quite the ugly page, so we'll save you the effort of perusing it for yourself by providing the gist right here. After this update, DROID DNA owners will have an HTC Sense 5 experience that approaches that of the HTC One. Read More
