Do you enjoy the simplicity and capability of the latest OnePlus flagship phone, but wish it were quite a bit more black, like that $10,000 performance upgrade to an economy sedan? Well your highly specific dreams have now come true, weird person. OnePlus announced the Midnight Black edition of the 3T today, sporting a swanky matte black coating on its aluminum body. The special edition uses the higher-end version of the phone's specs with 128GB of storage, but has the same $479/ 479 euro/439 GBP price as the current upgraded model. Read More
OnePlus is on a roll with these updates for its 2016 flagships. Just earlier this month, the OnePlus 3 and 3T received Android 7.1.1 via the Open Beta program, but now the new OS version is rolling out to the stable channel users via an OTA. That was quick. Read More
If you happen to have either of OnePlus' 2016 flagships (or both — no judgement here), there are new Open Beta builds available. Among other things, these updates bring the phones to Android 7.1.1 Nougat, which is great to see. Read More
OnePlus started its existence as a brash upstart, and today it's... a brash upstart. It is, however, a brash upstart that has produced a very good 2016 flagship phone. The OnePlus 3 and 3T are basically the same phone, but the 3T has more power under the hood and dollars on its price tag. Both phones offered similarly good experiences at launch, and now they're even better with Nougat.
So, how do these phones (specifically the OnePlus 3T) hold up? Quite well, but OP's actions in 2017 will be telling. This will be a pivotal year for the company. It could become a staple of the smartphone industry or prove to be just another middling player that will eventually fade away. Read More
The OnePlus 3T was unveiled a few months back, and seems to have been received well by most. Presumably to keep itself in the news, OnePlus says the pre-announced 128GB version in gunmetal grey is available for pre-order now at its site.
The gunmetal grey 128GB variant of the 3T was included in the main announcement back in November. Read More
but it's not been available to buy until now . It seems that while a 128GB version has been available before now, it may (or may not, it's very difficult to tell) have only been in limited quantities. It looks like OnePlus is following in the footsteps of Apple and Google, offering a very high capacity storage phone for extra cash, while continuing to sell the lower capacity variants too.
OnePlus is something of a darling among Android power users, shipping phones that can be bootloader unlocked without any special permissions or codes. But security researcher Roee Hay found that the OnePlus 3 (and the revised OnePlus 3T) are rather more open than was probably intended. With two native fastboot commands, Hay found he could install unverified boot images and disable the verified boot feature, all without actually unlocking the bootloader with the familiar user-accessible command. Which is, well, bad: it basically means anyone can run malicious code on the phone without resetting the user's data. Read More
You may remember that right at the end of December, OnePlus started rolling out OxygenOS 4.0, essentially Android 7.0 Nougat, for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. And you'd be completely correct. However, this was halted after 4.0 was found to be buggy and unstable for the OnePlus 3T. Now, 4.0.2 is rolling out, fixing the bugs and stabilizing the update. Read More
OnePlus likes to talk a big game about everything it does, and that statement is even more true when it comes to Dash Charge, the fast-charging feature introduced in the OnePlus 3 and 3T. If you follow the company's social presences, you'd notice at least a few mentions of Dash Charge every week, but this new video is a whole other ball game.
OnePlus got Emily Ratajkowski, who seems like the personification of a millennial (hate the word, but it's the most suited here) celebrity to explain how Dash Charge works, vocal fry and all. Presumably, loads of cash changed hands in the process, but not enough to make Emily seem less bored during certain segments of the 2min+ video. Read More
I would like to take this opportunity to say that I was wrong. When I received nothing but another beta build a few days ago on my OnePlus 3, I was highly skeptical about OnePlus making its goal of getting Nougat out on the stable channel for its flagship devices by the end of 2016. Well, here we are in the final hours of the year and the notorious manufacturer has come through. Both the OnePlus 3 and 3T are receiving OxygenOS 4.0, i.e. Nougat, via a staged rollout starting today. Read More
December, and 2016 with it, is winding down. In a few days, a lot of us will be celebrating the coming of the New Year. If you will recall for a moment, OnePlus said that its third flagship would receive stable Nougat by year's end. While the Chinese OEM followed through on its promise to get Nougat out in beta form by the end of November, time is running quite short. Instead of the official jump to Android 7.0, we have another release of the Open Beta (which is on Nougat, of course). Read More
