Watch Emily Ratajkowski explain how Dash Charge works on the OnePlus 3 and 3T

OnePlus likes to talk a big game about everything it does, and that statement is even more true when it comes to Dash Charge, the fast-charging feature introduced in the OnePlus 3 and 3T. If you follow the company's social presences, you'd notice at least a few mentions of Dash Charge every week, but this new video is a whole other ball game.

OnePlus got Emily Ratajkowski, who seems like the personification of a millennial (hate the word, but it's the most suited here) celebrity to explain how Dash Charge works, vocal fry and all. Presumably, loads of cash changed hands in the process, but not enough to make Emily seem less bored during certain segments of the 2min+ video.

The OnePlus 3 and 3T receive OxygenOS 4.0 (Nougat) today

I would like to take this opportunity to say that I was wrong. When I received nothing but another beta build a few days ago on my OnePlus 3, I was highly skeptical about OnePlus making its goal of getting Nougat out on the stable channel for its flagship devices by the end of 2016. Well, here we are in the final hours of the year and the notorious manufacturer has come through. Both the OnePlus 3 and 3T are receiving OxygenOS 4.0, i.e. Nougat, via a staged rollout starting today.

The OnePlus 3 receives Open Beta 10, featuring mostly optimizations

December, and 2016 with it, is winding down. In a few days, a lot of us will be celebrating the coming of the New Year. If you will recall for a moment, OnePlus said that its third flagship would receive stable Nougat by year's end. While the Chinese OEM followed through on its promise to get Nougat out in beta form by the end of November, time is running quite short. Instead of the official jump to Android 7.0, we have another release of the Open Beta (which is on Nougat, of course).

CyanogenMod 14.1 nightlies are up for the Sprint Galaxy S III, OnePlus X, Moto E (2014 and 15), Moto G4/G4 Plus, Kindle Fire HDX, Xiaomi Mi5, and more

CyanogenMod has seen better days as an organization, but the team behind the open-source Android custom ROM doesn't seem to be slowing down its prodigious output. In the last week new nightly builds have been added for no less than ten new phones and tablets, including notable models from Motorola, Samsung, OnePlus, and Amazon. All of them now have CM 14.1 (based on Android 7.1.1 AOSP code) builds available.

The OnePlus 2 receives OxygenOS 3.5.5, brings VoLTE support and other new features

It's been a few months, but OnePlus is again updating its 2015 flagship to a new version of the OxygenOS software, v3.5.5. The OTA brings a slew of new things, the most notable being VoLTE support. This update comes with a few caveats, which we'll get into after the changelog.

OnePlus 3T gets its second update in the form of OxygenOS 3.5.4, brings better T-Mobile support and other fixes

The OnePlus 3T hasn't been out for long, but OnePlus is already pushing another update to it. The Shenzhen-based company doesn't exactly have a great reputation for updating its devices, so this is nice to see. This update to OxygenOS 3.5.4 (still Android Marshmallow) brings a host of optimizations and fixes.

Most Wanted: The top mid-range (<$500) smartphones of 2016

The mid-range smartphone segment is a highly competitive one these days, and one that is seeing its price boundaries ever-expanded in the quest to reach the perfect equilibrium of specifications to dollar. 2016 saw the release of what we think are five truly exceptional mid-range devices in the United States: these phones put their money where their mouth is. Devices in this category must be priced at retail under $500, but over $250 (sub-$250 qualifies for our "budget" category). Our picks for "Top Mid-Range Smartphone" are presented below, in no particular order.

TWRP is now out for the OnePlus 3T, ZTE Axon 7, some BQ devices, and more

For those of us who love to mess around with our Android devices' software, custom recovery is essential. TWRP is, without a doubt, the most popular custom recovery out there, likely due to its easy-to-use interface and availability on a wide variety of devices. Now, it's available for several more devices, including the OnePlus 3T, ZTE Axon 7, a few BQ smartphones, and more.

Android Police Readers' Choice Award 2016: Cast your vote for the best smartphone of the year

What's your pick for best smartphone of 2016? For the first time (well, that I can remember), we're asking you to cast your vote for the phone you think stole the show this year. I've assembled a list of 15 devices that I think stood out in one way or another in 2016, so please note that the list does not purport to be exhaustive - this is, gently, curated.

With that in mind, consider your vote carefully. The tallying will continue through December 16th at 11:59PM PST, at which point the poll will close. We will announce the winner in a separate post the following week, declaring that phone the recipient of the Android Police Readers' Choice Award for Best Smartphone of 2016.
