Earlier today, Verizon officially announced the upcoming Droid XYBOARD's / XOOM 2's December 12th release date, but who really wants to wait this long just to grab all of its delicious wallpapers? Nobody, that's who, which is why all 11 of them are now looking for a new home, thanks to Droid Life.

Download them one by one (right click, then Save Link As) or grab the whole collection if you want - the choice is yours. The only question is, which one of these 1920x1408 beauties will conquer your heart? Mine's quite partial to the first one here:

Verizon only announced the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and 8.2 a few days ago, and now both devices are available on VZW.com. If you're not the online-orderin' type and can wait through the weekend to pick up this ridiculously-named device, then a quick trip to the closest VZW store on Monday (12/12) will land one in your hands.

Big Red just took the wraps off of two new Motorola tablets that we've been hearing about for a while now: the DROID XYBOARD 10.1 and 8.2. Both tablets are running nearly identical specs, save for screen size:

  • 10.1-inch and 8.2-inch IPS display with Gorilla Glass
  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 5MP rear shooter, 1.3MP front camera
  • 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB available for XYBOARD 10.1; 16GB and 32GB options available for XYBOARD 8.2
  • Android 3.2 - will be upgraded to Android 4.0
  • Verizon 4G LTE

Each tablet was built to address a specific market - the XYBOARD 10.1 is made for productivity and the use of a "precision tip stylus," which is included in the box, while the XYBOARD 8.2 was designed with multimedia in mind and sports 2.1 virtual surround sound and a "high-definition display."

Both tablets also come business-ready, as they come bundled with office-centric software such as Quickoffice HD and Citrix GoToMeeting.

We've heard the rumors and seen the pictures, but Motorola just made the XOOM 2 official. Just like suspected, there are two different versions: a 10.1-inch model, geared towards enterprise and corporate users; and an 8.2-inch Media Edition, designed for movies and music playback. In terms of hardware spec, both tablets are little more than an incremental upgrade from the original XOOM:

  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor (probably OMAP)
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB built-in storage
  • 5MP rear camera, VGA front
  • Android 3.2

Since each tablet is geared towards a different market, they also have individual features for their specific target audience.

A page from a catalog of the popular UK mobile retailer Carphone Warehouse was recently leaked, and it clearly states the Motorola XOOM 2 will be available in the UK in time for Christmas.

The catalog was intended for the Irish market, and thus the price has been listed in Euros as €399. Generally, prices in Euros and GBP for consumer electronics aren't reflective of exchange rates when attempting to determine a comparable price in the US - we're fairly certain the XOOM 2 will retail for $400 here in the US of A. And as Motorola is an American company (and we've apparently seen the XOOM 2 in Verizon's internal product system), we can probably expect it will launch here a little earlier than in foreign markets.

A couple of new images of both the internally-named Motorola Spyder, rumored to be the device Moto and Big Red have planned to announce as the Droid RAZR on October 18th, as well as the 8.2-inch variant of the XOOM 2 have surfaced. While we've already seen rough prototype shots of both XOOM 2 variants once before, this new leak shows a much more polished look on the little brother, suggesting that it's near completion and most of the kinks have been worked out.

The Spyder is now donning Verizon logos on the front and back, as well as a 4G LTE logo.

xoom2-siblings-hed

When we first reported on Motorola's alleged Xoom 2, very few - if any - details were certain. An anonymous tipster has been piling on the information since then, however, providing photos, (some) specs, and perhaps the most interesting detail of all - a second, smaller version of the Xoom 2, expected to be billed as an "e-reader replacement."

The Xoom 2's smaller relative appears to have the same rear buttons (power and volume rocker) as its larger counterpart, and a generally similar form factor, if not yet completely polished.

Obviously a full list of specs has not been confirmed, but here's what we think we know so far about the Xoom 2, thanks to the tipster:

  • Sleek 9mm thickness
  • 1.2GHz Processor (of unknown origin, possibly an OMAP 4)
  • 1GB RAM
  • 1080p video recording with a 5MP rear shooter
  • LTE Compatibility

The smaller tablet, suspected to be a "media version," supposedly shares the same specs as its larger relative, but is rumored to add an onboard IR remote and subwoofer, as well as an 8.2" HD IPS display.

The Motorola XOOM was a truly unique device: it marked the beginning of the Android tablet era, stole a portion (admittedly a very small one) of the iPad 2's pre-announcement hype, and... weighed about as much as a tank driven by Chris Christie.

Well now its successor, the XOOM 2, has begun to hit the rumor mill - just a few minutes ago, Droid Life leaked two pictures of the slate:

We don't have a ton of information on the device as of yet, but DL's "sources" say that its weight is similar to that of the XOOM (!), and it has "big physical flush" buttons on its back, HDMI and microUSB ports on its bottom, and a SIM card slot.
